Summary

After nearly dying while taking out a target in Hong Kong, Rain has a new employer, the Mossad, which wants him to fix a "problem" in Manila. He also has a new partner, Dox, whose good-ol'-boy persona masks a sniper as deadly as Rain himself. And he has a new hope: that by using his talents in the service of something good, he might atone for all the lives he has taken. But when Rain's conscience causes him to botch the Manila hit, he finds out the next problem the Mossad wants fixed is himself. Is Delilah, his Mossad lover, coming to help him? Or was she sent to finish him off?

REDEMPTION GAMES redeems John Rain series

What did you love best about Redemption Games?

I've tried the John Rain books before and wasn't a big fan, but then I tried the Ben Treven series and wanted more (there are only two so far). So, I went back to John Rain now that Barry Eisler is narrating them - WOW! What a difference. I'm now on a marathon and Love this series. I guess the reader really does make all the difference. This was such a good book. Great story, easy to follow and fast paced. Can't get over the difference, last Rain book I listened to I thought was boring, I'm relistening now and want them all.

Have you listened to any of Barry Eisler’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

Barry Eisler narrates wonderfully. He did a smart thing reading his own works. I can't believe these are the same books. Five star listening material!

I’m loving it!

I chose a 5-star rating because it’s John “Freggin’” Rain! Need I say more? No, seriously, Barry Eisler is a genius for having written and narrated this series. And this book, Redemption Games, is one of his best books yet. It has lots of depth to it. And the characters are perfect. I would say more, but I don’t want to give away the element of surprise for when you read this fantastic book. Happy reading!

Jog Rain rapes a woman and that's OK?

John Rain forces his way on a women while she is pinned down. That is rape, not "hot". Eisler is a good writer. That's the best he could do?

Good book in the series

Eisler narrating his own work is fantastic. reads right from the emotional source of the character.
Good story overall, but make sure to listen to the series in sequence. Some of the deeper context of the story does not make sense without it.
I am looking forward to listening to the next one.

Excellent listen, which left me excited for the next book

This was better than the preceding book, which was itself better than the one before it. John Rain is a compelling character..

It was an enthralling listen, which left me excited for the next book.

less plausible than the previous stories

Rain is no longer a loner. The story is less plausible than the previous installments. More time spent on relationships and less on working the details of the job, which may be better or worse for you depending on what you like about this series. I liked it less. I'm not really buying into the not-so-stone-cold-killer thing.
