Publisher's Summary

It's been said that monsters cry when a good man goes to war. But they should run screaming like little school girls when that man is secretly a wizard, and maybe not necessarily good.

Nate Temple's all-consuming quest to avenge his parents is temporarily put on hold when shape-shifting dragons invade St. Louis. And perhaps cow-tipping the Minotaur for answers might not have been Nate's smartest opening move, because now every flavor of supernatural thug from our childhood nightmares is gunning for him. Nate learns that the only way to save his city from these creatures is to murder his best friend.

Nate's choice will throw the world and his own conscience into cataclysmic chaos: avenge his parents or become a murderer to save his city. Because to do either, he's going to have to show the world that magic is very, very real, and that monsters are very, very hungry.

If you like Jim Butcher, Kevin Hearne, or Patrick Rothfuss, you will love the first installment of The Nate Temple Supernatural Thriller series.

    "Good first try."

Terry Pratchett did not get Disk world right in his first book. I think the books was very good, but hopefully the next few will be even better than this one. I am not sure about the narrator. some of the voices are rubbish. I will try the next book.

    "interesting start"

if you can get past the first few chapters, and allow the narrator to get into a flow, It does improve. the narrator becomes less annoying and develops a rhythm. The story is OK, it's no Harry Dresden but there is potential. As long as the main protagonist doesn't turn into a self centered ego centric prat. I'll give the 2nd book a go and hope for the best.

Great concept, good story ruined by simplistic writing and a main character that's hard to like. Sorry really did try to enjoy.

Sophomoric effort that desperately needs an editor. The reader is worse: pronunciation errors, poor choices for voices. Maybe if I read it it would be tolerable, but listening was just too painful. Cannot finish.

Would you try another book from Shayne Silvers and/or Marcio Catalano?

Since these have a money-back guarantee I MIGHT consider another from this author, but probably not.

Have you listened to any of Marcio Catalano’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

The narrator was very acceptable but the differences between character voices was mostly only by inflection. It occasionally is confusing who's speaking.

You didn’t love this book... but did it have any redeeming qualities?

The story had some promise, especially if you like human-transformed dragons stories and Urban Fantasy settings. Also the slight merging of technology and magic was interestingly presented.

    Any additional comments?

There was essentially some soft porn hidden as a demonstration of flirting techniques and how to behave at a "posh" gathering as a playboy's escort in the story.

    "meh."

very obvious the writer is trying to be like Jim Butcher, but not an awful book. I may try book two to see if there is improvement, Job's first few books weren't fantastic either!

    "Fantastic Story, Okay Narrator"

What a fantastic, action packed story! Very much like The Dresden Files. A fun world filled with wizards, werewolves and dragons.

I really enjoyed listening to this story. It was fast paced and had multiple storylines that weave in and out of each other well. It leaves the ending to allow for a, hopefully, long series of books, but closes up the story itself nicely without a massive cliffhanger. Which, personally, I prefer.

There is romance, but the story is not overwhelmed by it and it adds to the all over world building instead of just hanging out on the side.

My only suggestion would be that the author reign in his love of cleavage. If I have to read about this girl or that having a nice rack one more time I'm going to scream.

The narrator is okay. Not great, but not so bad I couldn't listen to him. He speaks much too fast and you have to slow him down a click on the audio player. He also has a horrible habit of pausing in the middle of a sentence. I get that there's probably a comma there but holy cow!

"He watched her run." "From the corner ." instead of "He watched her run from the corner."

It just doesn't flow well and can pull you out of a perfectly good moment. Otherwise, though, his use of voices was good and I could tell who was speaking all the time. Why Nate's Norse werewolf BFF sounds like a surfer dude from California I don't know but ...okay, I can live with it.

Looking forward to the next in the series.

"Take Harry Dresden. Then remove all.."

Take Harry Dresden. Then remove all foibles, challenges, meaningful friendships, and endearing qualities. Make him an inheritance billionaire who always wins, gets whatever he wants (including all attractive women throwing themselves and panties at him). Then make him an adherent to "bootstraps" mentality and you will have Nate Temple (who actually insists everybody, including police call him "Master" Temple).

    "Good start"

A great new series that give action, magic, wizards, a privilege billionaire and the edict to keep humans from knowing about the paranormal world.

Nate is from a strong wizard rich family. He was home schooled, no Hogwarts for him, and given the freedom to find his own way in life. His parents are murdered when he is thrust in to the world of responsibility, intrigue, and mega magic politics.

While juggling, finding the murder of his parents, the person stalking him, and how to save his city from dragons his must deal with treachery from a friend.

    "Good story, distracting narration"
    Any additional comments?

The story itself is good. I enjoyed the bits of humor peppered throughout a fairly interesting story. The narrator needs a bit of work, though. A number of times throughout the books he pauses mid-sentence as if it is the end of the sentence putting a slight upward lilt. It's like he got to the end of the line of the page he was reading and didn't realize the sentence continued on the next line. It's distracting, and it happens more than once.

    "Just don't"

This book was written by a 12 year old boy apparently, because all he talked about were boobs and his boners. The story was boring, and he was all over the place, never really taking the time to explain things. I also did not feel this book was well written, and the narrator was one of the worst I have ever listened to. His pronunciation of some words was down right atrocious. Skip this series.
