Summary

Despite her fascination with Jack the Ripper, Detective Constable Lacey Flint has never worked a big case or seen a dead body up close. Until now…As she leaves a south London estate one night, she is horrified to find a woman has been viciously stabbed, right next to Lacey’s car. Thrown headlong into her first murder hunt, Lacey’s quiet life changes overnight. Then Lacey receives a familiar hand-delivered letter, written in red blood, and it is clear the police have a Ripper copycat on their hands. Lacey must be the bait if they are to prevent a second, brutal murder. But can this inexperienced DC outwit a killer whose infamous role model has never been found?

Complex twists

I haven’t listened to any books from this author before. The story was interesting with a few twists towards the end. Very interesting idea about the identity Jack the Ripper. The story tries to be modern day and believable, it fell short of believable for me, so whilst I enjoyed it, not sure if I will rush towards another.

my new favourite crime writer

brilliant storytelling and another great twist. Lacey Flint reminds me of VI Warshawski. that's a great complement

Enjoyable, started well, but stretched credulity

Really enjoyable writing style and excellent narration (though I'm sure some of the Welsh and Scottish accents will be critised by the natives). For the majority of the book it was thoroughly entertaining and an absolute pleasure to listen to, good characters and a plot that became ever more intricate, albeit sometimes confusing. Towards the end it lost it though, becoming so far fetched that it was a disappointment.
It was enjoyable enough to not put me off trying another. Perhaps the next will have a more satisfying conclusion.

Absolutely amazing - A must read

I have never read a book so compelling, that i read (well listened) in one sitting, my husband & kids had to fend for themselves! The characters felt real, the story too, I’m good at figuring stories, plots, ending out, really well & quickly, people hate watching stuff with me for that reason; but not this one. I didn’t want it to end & the ending like the rest of the book was just as thrilling. This book should be brought to life on screen, it’s as good, better even, as line of duty, the Linda Lyplante many Crime Series & all the others we’ve seen & loved over the years. I’ve read & watched hundreds of crime, thrillers, murder, detective fiction & non-fiction; this I could re-read ( listen sorry) straight away…but my husband will not talk to me for days & moan about the expense of another takeaway 2 days in a row (I’m tempted) what’s amazing is the Lacy Flint story goes on in another 3 I think books I’ve not read, yes! Thank you Sharon Bolton, get writing though, I’ll be through them in a jiffy. Ps I think I’m a little bit in love with Mark,…..

A new author to me...

I was recommended the works of this author whom I had not read before. What a great find! The story was full of twists which made it exciting and I was kept riveted and looked forward to each chapter unfolding. I enjoyed it so much that I am now reading the next book about the same characters.

That's how you end a thriller!

Although long and at times gory. The plot is brilliant and the end is certainly cleverly done.

A bit scary

What made the experience of listening to Now You See Me the most enjoyable?

The story builds and you don't really know who did it till the end and lots of red herrings, good story

What other book might you compare Now You See Me to, and why?

I would compare this story to those by Susan Hill the Simon Serallier series

What about Lisa Coleman’s performance did you like?

Good but a bit flat

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

good that you were kept guessing

Any additional comments?

A bit of a scary listen don't be walking round on your own listening to it
