Publisher's Summary

After retrieving fresh lobster nets from a local laundromat, Cass Halloran rushes to attend a last-minute gathering with her knitting circle. But Cass can't stop worrying about the lonely boy she saw hanging around the dryers and the school uniform he left behind in a hurry. When she and her friends return the lost clothing the next day, they find the child and his younger sister alone, seemingly abandoned by their mother.

The knitters decide to facilitate a family reunion, but when the death of a recluse from the edge of town occurs, they end up investigating a crime instead - especially once they discover that the missing mother and one of their own are tied to both the victim's hidden fortune and her murder....

Before scandalous secrets break bonds and rumors tear Sea Harbor apart, the Seaside Knitters must string together the truth about the victim all while preventing a greedy murderer from making another move!

    "Awful. Give it a pass"

Dismal entry in an otherwise delightful series. Only recognizable because of the character names. The usually rich characters were one dimensional, shallow and boring. The plot was nearly nonexistent and way too convoluted to hold interes

    "Boring and slow"

The narrator talked so slowly and the story moved so slowly with all the fluff, I finally had to change the narration speed to 1.25 just to be sure I was right about the murderer (halfway through). The story also assumes that the reader has read other books in the series and just pops in random characters like we should know who they are.

    "Slow to start"

I didn't like the narrator. Story had too much descriptive narrative that was unnecessary and detracted from the story.

Hard to follow the story as my mind kept wandering. I like my murders with less romance and more twists. Lesson learned.

    "Much better!"

This book focused more on the mystery and less on the fiber and art end of things which is a good thing as I found it annoying in previous books that the author didn't have a good grasp of fiber arts. It was a good mystery. I enjoy the sense of community that serves as the backdrop for the series. I'll for sure buy the next one.

What did you like best about Murder Wears Mittens? What did you like least?

I really did not like this book at all. I had difficulty keeping track of who was who in the story.

If you’ve listened to books by Sally Goldenbaum before, how does this one compare?

No. She is a new author to me. I am not impressed.

Have you listened to any of Julie McKay’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

No. she is a new narrator / reader to me. She may be a good part of why I did not enjoy this book.

If this book were a movie would you go see it?

    no

    Any additional comments?

I am greatly disappointed by this experience.

    Story
    "Not much of a mystery"
What would have made Murder Wears Mittens better?

The new characters were hollow, the regular cast of this series boring. Won't spoil the ending but by the time we got there, I really didn't care.

Would you ever listen to anything by Sally Goldenbaum again?

I don't know, might wait for a sale. I have loved this series from the beginning, but this one bombed for me.

How did the narrator detract from the book?

Having listened to several books in this series, I thought of the narrator as mediocre, her male voices are dreadful. However, this time she seemed as bored as I was.

If you could play editor, what scene or scenes would you have cut from Murder Wears Mittens?

That is the problem, no scenes were memorable.

    Any additional comments?

If you are a series regular, you may love it for the cast of characters. I prefer a little more mystery, less melodrama. If you have not started this series, go back to the beginning, every author goes stale once in awhile.

I love the friendship that abounds in Sally's books. I wish there was a yarn store like this near me :)

    "One word: boring"
What would have made Murder Wears Mittens better?

The plot is so slow, nothing ever happens and the characters are just tiring. I've listened more than half of the book and at this point I don't care at all whether the suspect is guilty or not. Moreover, I wish it is! They're all so uninteresting, that I only listen to this when I'm bored to dead and there's nothing else to do.
