Summary
Es sollte ein harmloses Rollenspiel unter Jugendlichen werden, am 21. Juni 1996, ein Verkleidungsritual in der mythenumrankten Mittsommernacht. Doch Wochen später stoßen Wanderer in einem Naturschutzgebiet auf drei jugendliche Leichen, deren leblose Körper noch mit Miedern, Hemdkrausen und Perücken herausgeputzt sind. Sie wurden Opfer eines grausamen Verbrechens. Fast zur gleichen Zeit wird Kommissar Wallanders geschätzter Kollege Svedberg mit zerschossenem Gesicht in seiner Wohnung aufgefunden. Gibt es einen Zusammenhang zwischen den Fällen? Kurt Wallander stürzt sich verzweifelt in die Ermittlungen. Dabei muss er mit Entsetzen feststellen, wie wenig er über seinen Kollegen weiß, mit dem er jahrelang so eng zusammengearbeitet hat.
