Summary

Jack Reacher has no place to go and all the time in the world to get there, so a remote railroad stop with the curious name of Mother's Rest seems perfect for an aimless one-day stopover. He expects to find a lonely tombstone in a sea of nearly ripe wheat...but instead there is a woman waiting for a missing private investigator, a cryptic note about 200 deaths, and a small town full of silent, watchful people.

Reacher’s one-day stopover turns into an open-ended stay....

Fasten your seatbelt for another nail-biting ride from the kick-ass master of the thriller genre!

What a great book!

I've had to return a few books recently because the story was poor or the narrator wasn't good so It's a relief to find a book where everything comes together to create the perfect experience. It's a gripping story that builds at a cracking pace to a very exciting conclusion. Jeff Harding IS Jack Reacher for me.

Interesting in bits!

The story was interesting, as I didn't really see where it was going for a long time, which was unusual for a Reacher tale. It was pretty twisted, and made me wince a lot during the last couple of hours. The interplay between Reacher and Chang was pretty familiar for the most part, but it was interesting to see Reacher beginning to show some vulnerability - not sure if this will go anywhere. And for the first time, he really seems to suffer at the hands of a baddie.
So lots to like but with elements of the so-far-so-familiar Reacher story. Enjoyed.
Jeff Harding - just fab, as always. I am in love with his voice.....

Page turner

Fast flowing and interesting story, a bit less violent than others of this particular series

only listen if you've listened to the rest

it's very forgetful, to many leaps and unknowns with random ways to find out, but if you've listened to the rest like me, you can't not listen

Lacking in pace

Not such a good one, this. A third of novel gone before anything happens at all. This isn't usually an issue with Lee Child but the prose was so repetitive and there were too few characters to add interest. Once it got going its the usual Reacher Fayre and very enjoyable. Reacher's injury made for an interesting level of tension right to the end....

Lee Child at his best

Jack Reacher in a dark and involved plot. Excellent naration and full of suspense.

good but a bit slow in the middle

I enjoyed the story but I nearly lost interest in the mid part. it became pedestrian which is not usually the case with this serial.

Enjoyable

Jackie Reacher just as good, perhaps the story not the strongest, but still good to work through to the conclusion.

Enjoyable listen!

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Enjoyable listen! Would definitely recommend to a friend. I was looking for a book to keep me entertained during my commute to work & home! It worked a treat to the point were at times i didn't want to switch off! A typical Jack Reacher (you know what you are getting) - action, insight, descriptive, rugged hero, violence, will they - won't they etc etc.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Make Me?

For me, one of the most memorable moments of Make Me was the insight into the deep web and the dark web by the scientist neighbour and the description of the internet - how it works, how it is layered and structured!

What does Jeff Harding bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you had only read the book?

I wasn't sure at first about Jeff Harding and his accent - particularly when he started with female voices. After a while, I actually enjoyed listening to his voice (in some ways it could have been Jack Reacher reading). There's something very comforting and enjoyable about being read to! If I was reading the book, I tend to scan read (bad habit from days of studying!) I also skip a lot of description if I'm not gripped! Didn't want to with the audio book!
