Summary

Although his father had been reluctant to become a field operative, Jack Ryan Jr. wants nothing more. Privately training with a seasoned Special Forces drill instructor, he’s honing his skills to transition his work within The Campus from intelligence analysis to hunting down and eliminating terrorists wherever he can—even as Jack Ryan Sr. campaigns for re-election as President of the United States.

But what neither father nor son knows is that the political and the personal have just become equally dangerous. A devout enemy of Jack Sr. launches a privately funded vendetta to discredit him by connecting the presidential candidate to a mysterious killing in the past by John Clark, his longtime ally.

A shadowy mercenary team is dispatched to capture the former Navy SEAL. With Clark on the run, it’s up to Jack Ryan Jr., along with Ding Chavez, Dominic Caruso, and the rest of the Campus team, to stop a threat emerging in the Middle East: A corrupt Pakistani general has entered into a deadly pact with a fanatical terrorist to procure nuclear warheads, which can be used to blackmail any world power into submission.

With the breakneck speed and military action scenes that have made him the premier thriller writer of our time, Tom Clancy delivers a novel of high-tech warfare in which the enemy within may be even more devastating than the enemy without.

ok action, unpalatable politics

this is everything you would expect from a Tom Clancy novel, but some of the far right sentiments ruin it for me

poor narration spoilt an under par story

The choice of narrators for these audio books has always been a bit dodgy and the story has kept me listening but Lou Diamond Phillips is boring and shockingly bad at any sort of accent.
I've mostly enjoyed the Ryan series but I think I've come to the end now. this book was predictable and never really got going.

I'm hooked!

My first Jack Ryan book although I've seen the films. really enjoyed it, hard to actually stop listening.

Lou Diamond Phillips did a good job apart from his Welsh accent lol. Calling Jack Ryan "Laddie" and speaking with an equally bad Scottish accent made me laugh out loud but didn't spoil my enjoyment of the book.

Loved the story

Great story with plenty of detail. I like Lou Diamond Philips except for his attempts at British accents which have me in hysterics.

If you like Jack Ryan, you'll love his son

Although Locked On is a shorter tale than most of the old Clancy tales, the story races along at breakneck speed and across half the globe. The plot is every bit as complex as one expects from a Clancy story although I miss the incredible technical detail which is always spot accurate.

It is nice that John Clarke and Ding Chavez have moved forward into these new tales, and one feels a dynasty coming on.

Lou Diamond Philips does an excellent job as narrator and I looking forward to listening to Dead Or Alive after the holidays.

The twist at the end which will carry forward until the sequel is well worth waiting for and I actually gasped out loud in a public train compartment "Oh my God!" which drew me a few curious stares.

Impossible to put on pause.

Locked on Success

I loved the story as I always do with MR Clancy
Lou Diamond Philips did a Stirling job but (and I've seen other comments on this subject) he needs to do his homework on the British accents a Welsh accent is nothing like a Scots One Lou! But you told the tale well and I thoroughly enjoyed the well produced performance
