Summary
Struggling through another Edinburgh winter Rebus finds himself sucked into a web of intrigue that throws up more questions than answers.
Was the Lord Provost's daughter kidnapped or just another runaway? Why is a city councillor shredding documents that should have been waste paper years ago? And why on Earth is Rebus invited to a clay pigeon shoot at the home of the Scottish Office's Permanent Secretary?
Sucked into the machine that is modern Scotland, Rebus confronts the fact that some of his enemies may be beyond justice....

A Great Tale
Hats off to Ian Rankin, James MacPherson, and Audible, for a super story of greed, fed by corruption , and peppered by mendacity.

Great story
Lots of twists and turns, intrigue and humour. who cannot fail to be charmed.by Rebus as a character. Flawed in so many ways but at the centre an honest, motivated and top class policeman.

Let down by lack of ending.
I'll finish my review when Mr. Rankin can be bothered to finish the book. No wonder the American market made him do so!
Worst ending to a book ever.

Slow to build but gets better and better
Great story with multiple layers, story starts slow and builds with multiple layers and case developments being revealed and unpicked.

Great Storyline
I'm reading (listening) to the Rebus books in order. Let it Bleed has a plot with twists and turns and no Big Ger Cafferty, which took the story in a totally different direction. Rebus has to wrestle with his conscience but I loved the way that it finally played out.

Good listen
I do enjoy listening to these books. However, there were times that the plot and so many characters left me confused.

The tensions. The accurate localities of Edinburgh in the 1990s.
The ending. The bag of evidence was a let down, and there was an equivocal and sudden end.

Let it Bleed
Another masterpiece. Prior to these books I really enjoyed Rebus on TV. Books just take it to another level. Onto the next instalment.
