Summary

Rose Denton wakes up in her car. She has no memory of how she got there. But she knows something bad happened....

There’s blood on the windscreen and bonnet - but it’s not hers, and there’s no sign of anything or anyone she might have hit. The last thing she remembers is being in a hotel on a business trip, but now she’s miles away.

Back home, her daughter’s boyfriend is missing. The last thing he did was argue with Rose over money. He left no note, no text, no clue as to his whereabouts.

The police have questions - and so does Rose’s family. But those are little compared to the ones she has for herself.

What happened last night? And perhaps more importantly, does she really want to know the answer?

A totally addictive psychological thriller which will keep you on the edge of your seat until the final dramatic twist.

Okay, but not good enough!

This tale takes a long time to get going and even when it does, it’s only okay. The writing is sloppy. Wilkinson goes to the trouble to pay lip service to the cultural sensitivity to misogyny, speaking of ‘mansplaining’ and then goes on to frequently use the ‘generic male’ thereafter, ‘man management’ anyone? Also, the use of poor analogy is cringe making. e.g. referring to her injured foot, Rose says “It’s opened me up like a burnt pastie”!

The job done by the narrator is very good, but during the last third of the book, the recording is tainted by the sound of running water!

Gripping

I wasnt prepared to be so drawn into a story. It was completely absorbing. Didnt see that conclusion coming at all.

Gripping and powerful

Brilliant listen. It was absorbing from beginning to end. Strong characters and fast paced story lines with twisting bends and breathtaking plot lines.

Not for me!

I did complete it but didn’t enjoy it. Thoroughly unlikeable characters, lacking substance. Just when I thought it was over the chapters kept coming!

Had it worked out by half way

Not the best from this author. It was very slow and ponderous at the beginning and not easy to care about any of the characters. By half way it was pretty obvious who the culprit was . It must have something though as I did stay with it to the end . Wilkinson can do much better.

Good but felt a little predictable

My disliked and frustration over the main character meant it took me sometime to get into the story.
Felt a little predictable the whole way through but was gripping in parts.
Was good but not great for me.
