Publisher's Summary

Running from his own demons, Shane Ryan ends up in a cozy little cabin in New Hampshire waiting out a snowstorm. Despite the idyllic setting of ice frosted trees and snow covered lawns, Shane's peaceful hideout is suddenly plunged into chaos. A Micmac ghost army, led by Broken Nose, goes on a rampage of torture and murder. Shane may be a ghostbusting expert, but without his fighting gear, his chances are slim in winning the battle against a supernatural horde.

With Shane missing, Frank knows deep in his gut that his friend is in trouble. He pulls out all the stops and enlists the help of The Englishman, a lunatic who has a passion for killing. They both head to the one place Shane might be - Lake Nutaq.

As the trio prepares for battle, Shane realizes it's time to fight fire with fire, rage with rage and death with death! When they face Broken Nose, Shane sees the medicine man has commandeered an army of the dead to carry out his brutal blood killings. Frank and Shane live on the edge of danger but nothing could have prepared them for the malevolent evil unleashed to destroy them....

    "Shane's hands are full!"

I think I keep saying it with each addition to the series, but this has to be my favourite so far!! Shane is in way over his head here!!

So this one sees Shane set out from his house to clear his head, but he ends up stuck in a snow storm and stranded on Lake Nutaq. Things here are bad! Shane finds himself in the midst of an army of ghosts, lead by Broken Nose. Shane doesn't have any of his gear, nor a way to contact anyone. How will he get out of it this time??

How much more can Shane take? He is battered and bruised, and missing pieces of himself, but he still fights, and that's why I love this series so much. He is just so strong and brave and selfless. He seems to be getting emotionally better and stronger and just all round awesomer ;)

I love the authors ability to create memorable settings and even more memorable ghosts. Patience and Broken Nose were some of the worst! I also love seeing the flash back scenes and getting to know more on how the ghosts came to be.

This series is one of my favourites. The author never fails to grab my attention and give me chills. Each book is better than the previous ones and each leaves me wanting more. I can't wait to see what the author has in store for Shane next!

Thom Bowers really knows how to capture the essence of the story and knows how to bring the scariness and spookiness to life. He has also portrayed Shane perfectly. He brings across Shane's personality really well and always keeps me entertained.

I was voluntarily provided this free review copy audiobook by the author, narrator, or publisher. This in no way affected nor influenced my thoughts.

    "Haunted lake"

I didn't know what to expect from this book. I was happily surprised. Just when I think the writer can not come up with a new and different story he proves me wrong. The narrator has a great voice which draws the reader into the story. I will continue to read the rest of the series.

    "As Usual an Entertaining Read"
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Yes. I am a fan of Shane Ryan's and enjoy his adventures. Even if his idea of an adventure is narrowly dodging death. Additionally, I am glad Shane has a bevy of friends willing (living and dead) willing to die for Shane (haha!). Shane is the good guy willing to die to protect others.

What does Thom Bowers bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

The voices of our characters. Thom Bowers gives voice to Shane, Carl, and Frank in a way that would be lost if I only read the book. It's easier to identify with a character when you can hear the character speak.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

I did listen to it in one sitting. I traveled from one state to another listening to the entire story.

    "My fav horror series!"
Where does Lake Nutaq rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

This book ranks somewhere in the middle but that doesn't actually say much because most of the audiobooks I've listened to have been excellent. As for this series, this book ranks perhaps 3rd.

Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?

It certainly did! I started reading yesterday and didn't want to stop! I don't usually finish books within 2 days but when they're this good, I power through them. There were some new twists that kept me wondering what would happen next. Shane was in so much danger that I wondered (yet again...I need to accept that he's secretly immortal) if he would survive.

    Which scene was your favorite?

Without giving anything away, there's a scene with Patience and a bunch of hands that's pretty darn cool. It's the hands. I wasn't expecting the hands.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

I was worried Shane might not make it. And after Courtney's death I always have a lingering fear that Frank won't survive. I like Shane and all and am sincerely attached to his character, but Frank's awesome! I don't want him to die!

    Any additional comments?

Start with the first book if you're new to the series. I'm sure they can be read separately, but the first book's the best. The narrator really pulls you in. I think I've read the entire series with audiobooks instead of using my eyeballs to read it myself. For me, these characters will forever sound like the narrator...and that's a good thing. ;) hehe

"Good, but did not love it as much as the others"

The ghosts were interesting, and while I enjoyed the story, it did not draw me in as much as the others in the series. I felt like the focus was a bit too divided, which overall made the story a bit less enjoyable for me. Without giving too many spoilers, I did not enjoy that there were so many entities that were "bad guys" for this book without really feeling like most were fully explained. It was still a good portion of the series, and I look forward to more that are hopefully a bit more focused (or perhaps clarify some things from this story that were not explained fully).

    "Shane does it again!"
Would you listen to Lake Nutaq again? Why?

No, probably not. Because I have the book my interest would be more of reading it again.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Lake Nutaq?

When Shane takes responsibility for taking out the major bad guy.(no spoilers).

    Which scene was your favorite?

The same. When Shane faces his fears and confronts the major evil one.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

    Can you confront your fears?

    Any additional comments?

Very entertaining as all the scarestreet books and audios have been!

    "Shane is a Ghost Magnet"

I absolutely Love this series, these are not like the Ghost and Mrs. Muir. It is about Shane needing a break from his house then getting stuck in a snow storm and Ghosts. It has many ghost characters some good some evil, full of action. I love the characters of Shane (ex-marine), Frank (ex- priest and ex-military) and Carl. Keep them coming!! I highly recommend this series to anyone who enjoys horror ghosts. I was voluntarily provided this free review copy audiobook by Scare Street. THANK YOU!

What did you love best about Lake Nutaq?

The story is well written and the part I like best is it is realistic, a "this could happen" scary story.

The parts I like best are the one about Shane's house and the ghosts that reside there.
