    "Awful reader"

I was unable to complete listening to this story, the first time ever with audible. The reader spoke too fast, her female voices were shrill and very difficult to listen to.

    Story
    "Cliche ridden writing"

The story was well conceived but it was poorly written. Full of cliches with very derivative characters.
I usually enjoy the narration but this narration was awful - dreadful attempts at accents that made listening to the story very hard. It was difficult to discern who was speaking at times as the accents changed within characters. Dreadful.

    Story
    "
This is how much I have enjoyed this series."

I am usually extremely tough on narrators who mispronounce words, and editors who let them slide. It's not the kindest part of my nature. But when Nikki said that one of her fellow characters was an "aficiando" of history, for me, that malaprop was Nikki's, not Ms. Meire's, and I had a nice chuckle. That's how real the characters came to be for me, in Ms. Meire's versatile voice.

The plots in these books are unique, and involving, but it's my involvement with great characters that keeps me coming back every time.

"Not as strong as the others"

But do love these characters and the narrator; kept me engaged but not breathless for the next installment.

    Story
"Joy Ellis needs a good editor."
Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?

Joy Ellis is a good writer, but she needs a literate editor. A good editor would point out the meaning of the word, Reticent, which is NOT synonymous to reluctant. Saying "reticent to speak" is redundant and wrong. Tantor Publishing/Recorded Books should hire me instead.

    Any additional comments?

There are grammatical errors and also places where the wrong name is said.

"Another great 'on the Fens' suspense thriller!"

The books in this wonderful detective series by British author Joy Ellis are being released in audio monthly. I have listened to the first 4 in order. Ellis is an excellent story teller. Protagonist Detective Inspector Nikki Galena is a complex and fascinating character. In this case I wish I could award award 4.5 stars. Narrator Henrietta Meire is superb.

"Hope more installments are to follow"

I hope more installments are to follow. I'm enjoying this series. It's a police procedural with many twists and turns. The narrator did a fine job of bringing the characters to life. I recommend this book.

    Story
    "It's still personal"

I do like the characters, and I hope to see them change and grow. When the next books become available I will continue with the series. Spoiler Alert: The story still gets personal with the criminals focusing on the main characters and surrounding co-workers and family. And there was one twist that made me think "What?" and "Why?" instead of "Wow!"
