Publisher's Summary

An ISIS-style beheading of a journalist, carried out by a New York City group pledging fealty to that rogue state, becomes more than just another case for NYPD Captain Nikki Heat when the killers announce their next target: her husband, magazine writer Jameson Rook. Meanwhile, Heat is haunted by a fleeting glimpse of someone she swears is her mother, a woman who has been dead for nearly 20 years.

    "What a disappointment"

I have long thoroughly enjoyed listening and re-listening to all of the previous books in the Heat series. What a disappointment to find this one to be such a blatant anti-Trump screed.

    "Not So Good"
What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?

I have really liked all of the earlier "Heat" books but This one seems to have been written by a different author. It's full us PC crap. It also Jumps the Shark. I won't go into spoiler details in case someone else wants to try it but I Am Returning It. If there is another one, I'll give that one a try. If it follows the same way I'll stop buying the Castle Books.

Have you listened to any of Robert Petkoff’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

Mr. Petkoff is an excellent narrator.

You didn’t love this book... but did it have any redeeming qualities?

I will be returning this one.

Such a disappointing read. Propaganda at ever turn. I read for entertainment our education and this was neither.

"Lame story plus excessively politically correct"

High Heat is Novel #8 in the Detective Nikki Heat series. I've listened to all 8 and this is the only one to qualify as UTTERLY PATHETIC. This series is a spinoff of the Castle TV show with Rook being Castle and Heat being Beckett. Some of the earlier books in the series are fun listens. This one is not. The left wing political correctness is the most disappointing part of this novel. It is grossly excessive. I suppose it is what one should expect from Disney - ABC during a national election.

The ending sets up a future novel either in the Nikki Heat or Derrick Storm series.

    "Scrubbed politically clean by ABC?"

I'm glad that characters weren't so weak and whiney.
But the story was predictable and watered down. You will solve the main story at least 90 min before the end.
The "twist" ending isn't a twist.
