Summary

She looked into the dead face of the man she'd dined with the night before...

Standing over the body of a Supreme Court nominee, Lieutenant Sam Holland is hip-deep in another high-profile murder case. The fact that she was one of the last people to see Julian Sinclair alive just complicates things even more. On the plus side, her relationship with Senator Nick Cappuano is heating up - but it's also attracting a lot of unwanted media attention and blinding flash bulbs.

The pressure is on for Sam to find Sinclair's killer, but a new lead in her father's unsolved shooting puts her in unexpected danger. When long-buried secrets threaten to derail her relationship with Nick, Sam realizes that, while justice can be blind, mixing romance with politics has the potential to be fatal.

Wow...a must read

I am a long time audio book listener. This is my first review. I am very impressed. It is easy to love the two main characters. There is a wonderful story, a family you can believe, "family values" that are real and have been tested. There is love, romance and some wonderful sex. It is a full service story. Marie Force seems to be a relatively new author and I predict we will see a lot of her soon.
I hope she keeps Sam and Nick around for a very long time. I am hooked.
Read them in order.

good story

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Possibly. I liked the whole series.

Would you be willing to try another one of Katie Sparer’s performances?

Probably not. She reads okay, but I didn't like her voice. It doesn't match the character. The narrators from the other books in the series were much for fitting for Sam.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

It would have been , if the voice didn't bug me.

Hard to Listen

Where does Fatal Justice rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

Very low, mainly because of the performance. I had a hard time telling characters apart.

Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?

Somewhat

Who would you have cast as narrator instead of Katie Sparer?

not sure....anybody

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

no

This story had so much potential

Is there anything you would change about this book?

The basic story was solid, but the characters seemed smarmy in the beginning of the book. I'm not sure if that was the fault of the writer or the narrator. For the first several chapters, this felt like a second novel in a series. There was a lot of back story that felt superfluous.

I think I would have liked more solid action a little earlier in the story, because once the action picked up, the book got better.

What was the most interesting aspect of this story? The least interesting?

One of the most interesting parts of the book was the side story about the main character's partner exploring a relationship of his own.

What aspect of Katie Sparer’s performance would you have changed?

I wish she would have differentiated between the character's voices more. In some of the dialog scenes, it was difficult to follow just who was saying what. It was especially weird because the main character and her boyfriend were sometimes hard to tell apart.

Was Fatal Justice worth the listening time?

Overall, it was an entertaining story that probably would have benefited from a better narration.

the tittle is very misleading

way too much sex and romance . I did not make it past the 5th chapter ,there was little to no substance just sex. if you like soft porn then this is the book for you . for me it was a wasted credit.

If this was a movie, it'd be "made for tv"

What would have made Fatal Justice better?

Every character is a bore. They are all completely led be their "overwhelming emotions", and most seem to have preconceived notions about things and are generally being stupid. I wish that the characters would act professionally and, well, logically.

And why is everyone so good-looking? Irrelevant.

Oh, and the words "she pushed hard against his er*ction" (or some variation) occur a little too often to not be laughable.

That said, I had never heard of Marie Force before and I did not read the description properly as I expected a thriller/crime story and not some chick variant with romantic entanglement as a major part... Which bores me to tears... I realize I am not the target for this kind of novel. Then again, it's got enough of a story so that I will finish it.

What do you think your next listen will be?

A podcast of some kind, or an sf novel.

Which character – as performed by Katie Sparer – was your favorite?

She did the southern senator well, in a sort of funny "evil guy" way.

What character would you cut from Fatal Justice?

Sam. Ok she is the main protagonist but she is such an idiot about so many things so my blood pressure rises a bit too often during the story (not related to the sex scenes). Maybe her boyfriend, Nick, who is also a jerk.

Not many of the people seem quite adult, a bit like immature teenagers. With hot bods. Ridiculous.

Any additional comments?

Yeah... I did not like it as it's a romantic "thriller". I should have understood it from the description, but did not - I am definitely not in the target category so take this review with a grain of salt. Apparently most people in the target group adore Marie Force's books. I will never read or listen to another one however.

Not bad

This book had a little bit of everything. It wasn't a bad book but I don't know if I'll read it again. The story itself was pretty good & some of the characters were CRAZY!!! :)

Disappointed in this book

I was disappointed in this book. I bought it to get a murder mystery, but this book contained way too many very explicit sex scenes. It was as if the author was trying to make it a murder mystery and romance novel combined, which just didn't work for me. The storyline was nothing great, as I usually like surprise endings, or twists and turns in a story, neither of which was contained in this book. Not sure if I will read any more of this authors books.

Outstanding romantic suspense!

An excellent follow-up to "Fatal Affair". The relationship between Samantha and Nick heats up as Sam investigates the murder of a Supreme Court nominee.

Neither a Good Romance Nor a Good Thriller

Would you ever listen to anything by Marie Force again?

It would take a lot, but I might consider her work in a different genre.

What didn’t you like about Katie Sparer’s performance?

I feel like her interpretation of the protagonist was often at odds with the character's description. Sam sounded like a flighty, irresponsible twenty-year old with low self esteem and who could not control her emotions. It made me question why anyone would trust her with the kind of responsibility she was given.

What character would you cut from Fatal Justice?

Sam, sadly. I found her incredibly annoying.
