Summary

A daughter's death. A teenage girl is found, brutally murdered in her squalid flat. A mother's love. Her mother is devastated. She gave her child up to the care system, only to lose her again, and is convinced that the drug-pusher boyfriend is to blame. Two ordinary women, one extraordinary job. DC Rachel Bailey has dragged herself up from a deprived childhood and joined the Manchester Police. Rachel's boss thinks her new recruit has bags of raw talent but straight-laced DC Janet Scott, her reluctant partner, has doubts. Together Scott and Bailey must hunt a killer, but a life fighting crime can be no life at all...A prequel to the hit TV series Scott and Bailey, and a chillingly authentic story of murder and hunting killers on the mean streets of Manchester.

suspense keeps you on your toes till the end

Where does Dead to Me rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

Kept me hooked to the end. Couldn't wait for the next chapter ( limited myself to 3 chapters a day) would listen to it again and again. One of the best listens for me.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Dead to Me?

One of the best moments was when Jill took revenge on her two timing husband I laughed all day.

Which scene did you most enjoy?

the scene I most enjoyed would give away the ending as I was sooooo wrong about the culprit.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

I wish I could have listened to it all in one go but time would not have allowed it.

Any additional comments?

I thought the lady doing the reading had the characters off to a perfect T

Three and a half stars!

I love Cath Staincliffe's novels and I love her writing for radio and TV. I am also a huge Scott and Bailey fan and love the Manchester setting and references. This novel is OK but rather disapponting. It is a prequel to the TV series and fulfils this purpose very well. It gives a good insight into the backgrounds of Janet, Rachel and Jill and the relationships between them. However the actual crime story moves along far too slowly and the concentration on the lives and backgrounds of Scott and Bailey is at the
expense of the plot. I would give this 4 stars for the narration, writing and my love of Manchester and the characters. However it gets 3 stars for the pace and plot !
