Summary

'Bolton is a gripping storyteller with fine, haunted characters.' (Peter James)

Just before dawn in the hills near the Scottish border, a man murders a young woman.

At the same time, a hot-air balloon crashes out of the sky. There's just one survivor. She's seen the killer's face - but he's also seen hers. And he won't rest until he's eliminated the only witness to his crime. Alone, scared, trusting no one, she's running to where she feels safe - but it could be the most dangerous place of all....

Could not put this down!!!

Great crime story - recommended by my sister. Plot multi faceted layers - thoroughly enjoyable read. Would recommend. Great narrator. Will be reading / listening to more Sharon Bolton books.

Crime thriller with Nuns

I'd never have dreamt of such a combination but that's why I am the reader and not the author. Ms Bolton has whipped up a wonderful combination here, from the balloon ride at the beginning, to the very surprising end.
You may think that you know what is going on, but you'll be wrong, unless you too have an extraordinarily vivid imagination.

Wow!

Wow! The best book I've listened to in a very long time. No way of guessing who done what. A credit very well spent.

recommended, a good listen

A great listen, nice and long at over 12 hours, and an interesting story. Scenes well described - I am writing this several months after listening, but can still feel the pace of the story and have a very vivid picture of what unfolds.

Excellent Story

I have enjoyed all Sharon Bolton's books and this story is excellent. She combines descriptive writing with an intriguing story line. Full of twists and turns and the pace varies in clever writing. If you are a Sharon Bottom fan you won't be disappointed.

fabulous writing, great narration.....But!

love Sharon Bolton. fabulously rendered characters, twisty plot. some wonderfully creepy and tense moments along with the occasional farcical. passage . the narrator is talented , with a fine sense of the piece. there are a number of Scottish characters, however. if you hail from North of the border it's painful. only geniuses like Sean.Barrett can seem to manage the Scots accent. Or maybe Peter Sellers.

Slow to Start

I found this book slow to start but the twist in it captured my attention and resulted in 4 stars rather than 3 stars. Stick with it, it's worth it
