Publisher's Summary

Keep the door locked.

Sam is excited to spend a week at her uncle's remote lake cabin. It's a chance for her to focus on her art without distractions: no neighbors, no phone, and a small radio as her only contact with the outside world.

But there's something deeply unnatural lingering in the lake.

The radio's news reports talk about disappearances on a nearby hiking trail. The car won't start. And Sam starts to believe she's being stalked when she catches glimpses of a tall, strange man standing at the end of her dock, staring intently into the swirling waters below.

    Story
    "Chilling and Adrenaline Rushing"
What did you love best about Dead Lake?

It chilled me. It scared me. It frightened me. There was a lot of suspense and thrills, that I found myself needing to pause the book to give my heart a chance to slow to a healthier pace. I was anxious, scared, and hopeful for Sam.

What did you like best about this story?

The story was so well told that I found myself easily visualizing the scenes and frightened as slowly realized she was truly in danger. I mean, come on. Ian did everything short of walking Sam to the shanty to make her understand just how much danger she was.

Which character – as performed by Nicky Phillips – was your favorite?

The drunk radio host, uncle something or another.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

    Scared. It gave me chills.

    Story
    "A great supernatural story"

Contains just enough suspense, horror, unanswered questions and ghosts to appeal to all readers. The characters were well written and the setting was perfectly written. The narrator did a wonderful job.

    Story
"Please note this book is less than 3 hours long."
What did you like best about Dead Lake? What did you like least?

Had this book been 8 hours long or even 6 hours long or maybe 5 hours long, then the author could have pulled you into the story, rather than telling you a story with a lot of missing parts.

If you’ve listened to books by Darcy Coates before, how does this one compare?

Never listened to her before. Don't plan to do so again.

What about Nicky Phillips’s performance did you like?

She did a wonderful job. Not rushed, just doing the best with what she had to work with.

Did Dead Lake inspire you to do anything?

Yes, write a review to warn others.

    Any additional comments?

This story has great potential. As disjointed and bizarre as it was I fully expected to find that this was a dream and the main character woke on the couch after just arriving at the cabin in chapter 1. THAT would have been a better ending than what the author crammed into the last 12 minutes.
