Summary

You can pick your friends, they say, but you can't pick your family. And lately, Mike Daley's family has been keeping him very busy. An ex-priest, ex-public defender, and ex-corporate lawyer, Daley and his former wife, Rosie Fernandez, now run their own San Francisco criminal defense firm. Most of their cases are fairly small-time, which is why it would be surprising that the person accused of murdering movie director Richard (Big Dick) MacArthur is calling them - except that the accused is Rosie's own niece, Angelina. That case is bad enough, but the family problems don't end there: Rosie's brother, Tony, may be on the wrong end of a strong-arm graft proposal; the son of one of the firm's lawyers has just been busted on a drug charge; Mike is having a clandestine affair with a woman judge... and Rosie herself has a dark secret that may make all of it seem irrelevant.

An intricate plot, immensely likeable characters, powerful suspense, and more than a touch of humor-these have already become Siegel's hallmarks. Criminal Intent will keep you turning pages until its final, surprising end.

Absolutely awful

Sorry but it rambles on like an extended soap opera about the characters family and a daft attempt to independently pre investigate a murder instead of addressing the evidence produced. Maybe it goes somewhere but I don't know since I had to give up because it was like a depressing monologue by someone you'd avoid in the pub.
I don't know how it got published

Tedious

I feel really let down by this author. It's a poor story made so much worse by the plot wandering off into Woman's Hour territory with repeated personal relationship discussions. He can't even give us a decent dialogue for these exchanges. And why is it necessary to feature his ex wife's cancer problems? I thought I was buying a fast moving legal thriller but these distractions just stop the momentum dead. The book irritated me no end and finally lost my interest. A word too on the narration, eloquent enough maybe but so undramatic and delivered in such a flat tone that it does nothing to lift the dreariness. If I was Mr Siegel I'd get a new editor!

Poor narration

Clicks and clunks. Also inconsistant volume. I think recording was done in his front room very amateur.

nice story but.....

Mr. Godfrey's voice drove me insane-I think I could have done a better job with the variations.

Just Terrible.

This was one of the most difficult books to listen to for many reasons. It sounds like it was recorded in someone's bathroom, with constant background noises!! The story was very difficult to follow, constantly changing from one storyline to the next and I didn't enjoy the performance. Kept going hoping it would get better and it Didn't!! wish I'd given up when I first wanted to!!
