Summary

I do love my husband. To death. I love him so much that I've waited a whole year (minus one day) for Killing Kurtis Day to arrive. Tomorrow it will finally be here and I'm giddy with anticipation.

Don't judge me, you don't know the whole story. I reckon that if you were in my shoes, you'd kill your husband, too.

This audiobook is recommended for listeners ages 18 and over due to some adult content and situations.

Outstanding!

What made the experience of listening to Countdown to Killing Kurtis the most enjoyable?

The narrator was hilarious! I read this in ebook format first, and laughed til I cried, but the audio is ten times better!

Who was your favorite character and why?

Buttercup, because she is so 'matter-of-fact' throughout the whole story, that she's going to kill her husband. Her euphemisms are downright hilarious!

Have you listened to any of Lauren Rowe’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

Yes, I listened to the first book of the Club series. that was a dual-narration, and really good, too. Countdown is still my favorite, though.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Yes, but unfortunately life got in the way.

Any additional comments?

If you haven't read or listened to this book, do so immediately!

WOW!!! What a jaw dropping book!!!!

What did you love best about Countdown to Killing Kurtis?

I loved the whole story. It kept me on the edge of my seat pretty much the whole time. The caracters were very exciting and entertaining. The story line never trailed I loved all the Southern cliches and banter. I was continually surprised by the turns throughout the whole book. Just when you thought you knew what was next you so didin't. And what you thought about certain caracters didn't always hold true and sometimes they surprised you. I laughed, cried, or was thoroughly shocked through the whole book. There wasn't an emotoinless part in the whole book and I think I went through them all. So pyscological? Definitely! Thriller? Most Definitely!!

What did you like best about this story?

I like that I was always surprised by what happened in each chapter. I was surprised that I actually cried in parts of the book.

Which scene was your favorite?

To say I had a favorite scene would be a lie. Because the whole book was my favorite scene.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

There were a few moments that really got to me throughout the whole book. Some made me laugh, sometimes hysterically. There were a couple that touched my heart and made me cry. And yes a couple that made me mad for certain characters or with certain ones. I won't be telling which because that would spoil it for other readers, NO SPOILERS HERE!!!

Any additional comments?

I think this book is in a class all by itself. I have never read anything like it. I would and have called it an "Adult Erotic Pyscological Thriller".

Loved!

Any additional comments?

I am a huge fan of Lauren Rowe's "The Club" series, so when she announced that she had a psychological thriller coming out, I knew I had to read it. I prefer to listen to audiobooks so that I can read while doing other things, so I was happy (and kind of annoyed on her behalf) when Lauren announced on Facebook that Audible was releasing Countdown to Killing Kurtis early, and purchased it right away. I'll confess to being a rather neglectful wife, since I wore my earbuds all stinking day and into the night listening to the book, and then got up extra early the next day so I could finish listening before work! I really loved this book. So many twists and turns, and numerous "WTF?!!s". It kept me guessing, and had many "Oh, sh*t!" moments. While I absolutely agree that this book is nothing like "The Club" series, Lauren's humor, wit, and voice come through very clearly. I loved (and loved to hate :)) the characters in "Countdown to Killing Kurtis". They were fully formed, and very believable. Buttercup cracked me up and kind of horrified me at the same time - in the very best way. As for the audiobook specifically, it was narrated by Lauren Rowe herself, and as always, she did a stellar job. I loved that the Texas accent was very apparent, but not too over the top. She does a pretty freaking amazing impression of a famous newscaster at one point! I unreservedly recommend "Countdown to Killing Kurtis". I know I've said it before, but at this point, Lauren Rowe could write a phone book, and I know I'd read it and love it.

It is worth a listen and I recommend to everyone.

Not What I expected

I'm sorry, I usually love this author but this novel?; not so much. I guess I expected the bad guys to ultimately get what was coming to them not that innocent people would be killed out of greed and that the one that perpetrated the evil would get everything they wanted, in the end. I guess I'm just too Midwestern old fashion and perhaps somewhat naive. But if the only way to acomplish your dreams is to hurt other people and step on their dead bodies on the way up, then I am going to stay in my little piece of the bible belt and do things the old fashioned way.

An absolute brilliant read! This book will have you on the edge of your seat and the ending will shock you!
Buttercup is hilarious with her sweet southern accent and internal dialogue! The story is dark and twisted but I freaking loved it! A definite must read!

BLOODY BRILLIANT!!

Gosh dang it Buttercup...you stole my heart!
If you have read the book...this narration will bring it to life in real & vivid colour for you!
Lauren Rowe's accent is so believable..good lord..you could swear she was born & bred in that big ol' state of Texas!
Those who havn't read the book...this is a story of intrigue & manipulation...by all characters involved. But also about how a person can ultimately achieve their dreams.. if only they have enough belief in themselves..even when those beliefs come from an upbringing that is unquestionably abusive. It tells a story of how a young girl, repeatedly let down by those closest to her, finds her true meaning in life.
You will go through all types of emotion with this story...Anger 😠, Bewilderment 😞, Exasperation 😣, Humour😄....oh that weird & wacky humour that Lauren possesses. 😁
She injects so much hilarity in this story...you will be pissin your pants with laughter 😂
This is hands down one of the best books I have ever read & listened to.
Bravo Lauren...Bravo!

The hilarious adventures of a psychopath

I love this author. The Morgan brother series is the best. This book has the humour seen in several of her other books.

A unique premise, from what I've read. You follow along inside the head of a very personable, charismatic psychopath. She carries you with her on her many schemes, including murder, and pulls you along as she justifies it all.

An interesting read/listen.

Good characterizations. Great narration.

so cheesy

Didn't make it past the 4 the chapter it was so bad. Think of every backwoods redneck saying you can think of and rediculous sterotypical country girl voice to narrate and you have this book! not good:(

Fantastic!!

Can I just say that Buttercup is one crazy heffa!! I am going to say she is right up there with some of her favorite lunatics...lol. I felt myself possibly slipping away right alongside her laughing and carrying on at her "texas" twang and her colorful euphemisms. The author does an amazing job at narration. Her timing is perfect and I don't know if that accent is authentic or not but she nails it. The story itself had me mesmerized wondering what was going to happen to "poor" Kurtis. Loved this audio!!
