Publisher's Summary

What if you couldn't remember the last year of your life? And the people closest to you were lying about what really happened?

Gripping, shocking psychological suspense that fans of Liane Moriarty's The Husband's Secret, Clare Mackintosh's I Let You Go and Linda Green's While My Eyes Were Closed will love.

She can't remember the last year. Her husband wants to keep it that way.

When Jo Harding falls down the stairs at home, she wakes up in hospital with partial amnesia - she's lost a whole year of memories. A lot can happen in a year. Was Jo having an affair? Lying to her family? Starting a new life?

She can't remember what she did - or what happened the night she fell.

But she's beginning to realise she might not be as good a wife and mother as she thought.

    "A gripping debut novel"

I really enjoyed the slowly evolving story as we moved between now and 12months ago.

Poor editing. Several times there was a sentence being repeated and corrected throughout. Very Distracting!

What disappointed you about Close to Me?

Struggled to get through the book and took days to finish. Thin storyline with no direction.

    "Very good"

I did enjoy. I usually listen to my Audible, in bed just to get me ready for sleep, unfortunately, one night I laid in bed till 3.30 instead.

    "Great story, mediocre recording quality"

A good book spoilt by poor sound quality. At times l could barely here it plus shabby chapter editing. A shame because it was well narrated and a gripping plot albeit a bit unfeasible.

    "Dull"

Struggled through to the end of this book because I was interested enough to want to confirm how it ended but it really wasn't worth it. Endless confusing rambling and inconsistent 2D characters. The idea was good and the narration fine hence 2/3 stars but it didn't fulfil potential - totally predictable

    "Really not worth the time"

This book would probably have been rated a pretty average 3 stars had I bothered to read it conventionally. However, I usually listen to books on my driving commute these days.
My biggest bugbear was the narration; from a whiny whispering Jo to a pompous shouty Rob; I was constantly having to adjust the volume. Not to mention the two whiny spoilt, yet adult brats who were mostly just irritating, and Thomas who was just drawled and was obnoxious.
The story itself was like wading through porridge, the characters all one dimensionally dislikable and the overall story flimsy. There wasn’t a single person to root for, I would have cheerfully slapped every single one of them!I only finished it out of morbid curiosity and then wished I’d never bothered. That’s 8 or 9 hours of my life I’ll never get back! My lasting memory of this book will be how many times a chapter ‘Jooooooooooo’ was uttered at great length. Arghhhhhhhhh!!!!!

    "Not too bad"

Not a bad book but the plot ending let it down. The story lets you believe there's a big drama coming, big secret, but it's not all that bad in the end.
