"A new series to watch out for"

Candles and Roses is a great start to a new crime series. Alex Walter's DI Alec McKay series is definitely one to watch out for. I'm looking forward to the next novel as I really enjoyed this story.

    "Enjoyable thriller"

A great book but with poor narrator. I've listened to many books and this is the poorest narration I've heard, with repeated errors throughout. The story was great so I put up with the narrator but was repeatedly annoyed at the errors.

    "Gritty"

1st of all excellent story. I adore Alec great to the point copper. I luv the banter between the officers & the down to earth & natural reactions between them.
The narrator fits the bill exactly. Luv the accent & def is Alec.
Teeny moan, a few repeats during narrative as if slip of tongue. But it doesn't spoil the tale. It was like someone there with you reading it out. Could've been smoother but hey I still loved it.

    "clever plotlines"
Would you consider the audio edition of Candles and Roses to be better than the print version?

I preferred the print version, however hearing the names and places in a true Scottish Accent, brought the areas of placement to life more.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Candles and Roses?

where the first body was found, it made me feel like I could visualise the area, and what a clever place to hide a body, well until it was found.

    Any additional comments?

An enjoyable book/read/listen. I would read more from this author and looking forward and hoping there is more to come.

    "Excellent police procedural well told"

This is a well crafted police procedural set in the wilderness of Scotland. The characters were engaging and there were enough twists and turns in the plot to keep you guessing to the end. The minor characters were particularly well drawn, adding a depth to the story that was very satisfying.
I particularly loved the gravely Scottish brogue of the narrator David McCann. It added a touch of realism to the voices, to hear them in the accent the author intended. It was very easy on the ear, and I would love to hear more from this distinctive voice.
Looking forward to the next installment.
