Publisher's Summary

The members of London's Peculiar Crimes Unit are on the case again when a dog walker is found dead. The method of the death is odd...the killer had no way in - or out - and the dog is nowhere to be seen. But the 'hows' and 'whys' of the murder are not the only mysteries, and it seems very likely that the killer is preparing to strike again.

    "Another gem"

I have fallen in love with the characters in this book and although the plot is important it is Christopher Fowler's writing that keeps me enthralled. His one liners make my laugh out loud. Arthur Bryant is marvellous but I have a real soft spot for Colin Bimsley. And the narration is perfect.

    "Delightful"

I'm so glad to have discovered this author and can't wait to read the rest of the series. The characters are quirky and likeable and the dialogue full of wit and interest. A whodunnit peppered with fascinating historical titbits and Anglo-Saxon eccentricities. I loved it.

Another fantastic adventure with the PCU. I love getting to know more and more about each character with ever new book. Tim Goodman is as outstanding as always narrating.

"Please, Mr Fowler: just put this series to bed"

I have listened read and listened to the whole Bryant and May series, and enjoyed the first half of the series - The Water Room, White Corridor etc. - but it certainly has been declining of late, and this issuing is both the longest and most interminable of them all.
The story is convoluted and confused, and the repetition of the motif 'we have one week to solve this or we'll be shut down' is just soul destroying. The chapter titles, as an aside, are beyond ridicule.
I wanted very much to enjoy this book - a distraction on a long haul flight - but found it irritating. Raymond Land portrayed as an idiot, although he is introduced in an earlier book as a forensic expert; the opportunity taken at every turn to criticize the modern economy of London.
I don't think I shall persecute myself with the inevitable next offering, and really hope this is the last.

Tim Goodman is a fine narrator, however various character voices change from book to book, hence the low review. He alone deserves a reasonable score.

    "Another good'un"
Would you consider the audio edition of Bryant & May - Wild Chamber to be better than the print version?

Never read always listened so not applicable

Who was your favorite character and why?

too many excellent characters to chose from. Oh on a different note, when asking a question in England could you spell correctly!! FavoUrite not Favorite it's really irritating.

Have you listened to any of Tim Goodman’s other performances? How does this one compare?

Only heard him on the Bryant and May series where he is superb.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Listened as often as possible, never listen in one go like to savour it

    Any additional comments?

Another cracker. Christopher please write more

"A worthy, familiar entry to a favorite series."

Tim Goodman did a great job, as always. He brings the author's characters to life. While this is not one of my favorite stories, it is still quite inventive, and I certainly crave more.

    "I like this series"

I like British. I like police procedurals. Combining these in the Peculiar Crimes Unit gives me the best of both. This book focuses, more than some in the series, on solving murders. The fascinating histories color the police work leading the reader to surprises. Then. quietly, the ending spells out.

    "A Balanced Relationship"

I absolutely love this series and it's so hard to wait in between books! This latest addition is true to form and extremely enjoyable. The narrator is fabulous and can seamlessly go from character to another with ease. The animosity between Bryant and Rosa had me really laughing at the clever insults he threw her way. Really worth the time and money. You won't be disappointed!!
