Summary

A banking scandal has filled the city with violent protests, and a young homeless man burns to death after being caught between rioters and the police.

But all is not as it seems; an opportunistic killer is using the chaos to exact revenge. Arthur Bryant and John May soon find their investigation taking an apocalyptic turn as the case comes to involve the history of mob rule, corruption, punishment, and the legend of Guy Fawkes.

Good story, narration questionable at times.

I enjoyed this tale, and particularly the description of one character’s experiences. (No spoilers here!)

The narrator really brought some of the characters to life but, oddly, seemed ignorant of how to pronounce simple words like ‘grimace’ (he pronounced it ‘grimayced’).

Once you picked-up on this it became apparent that he wasn’t perhaps as well-prepared for this gig as I would have liked.

Overall enjoyable nonetheless.

Great Story, fantastically well narrated

Another great Bryant & May adventure

The narrator is a breath of talented fresh air after some of the dross I've listened to. He should narrate every audio book!

very interesting read

Would you consider the audio edition of Bryant & May - The Burning Man to be better than the print version?

I have not tried the print version of this book.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Bryant & May - The Burning Man?

the whole feel of the book was memorable and has made me want to hear more from this author.

Any additional comments?

very well written - I loved the tone of humour in the characters and especially the way in which the author describes them, you really get a feel for them and it made me want more.

WHAT WILL I DO WITHOUT YOU?

Any additional comments?

I absolutely adore Bryant and May, and everyone else in the Peculiar Crimes Unit. Every book in this series is different and unusual, and I never want to get to the end of a book. Tim Goodman is a wonderful narrator in as much as he doesn't need to say "said Bryant": his characters are so clearly delineated you know immediately who is speaking. Unfortunately, it looks like this book may be the last (the final chapter definitely leads you to that conclusion) and on reaching the end I found myself reduced to tears, which is exceedingly rare for me! I do hope Christopher Fowler has some magical trick up his sleeve whereby he can surprise us at least one more time?

The Characters feel like Family

I have followed Bryant and May all the step of the way. The narrator is superb with every character, especially Raymond Land. Tim Please can you write another adventure slotting it in time between one of the earlier stories.

Such a joy

Wonderful characters brought so vividly to life by the narrator. Arthur can make me laugh out loud with his analogies. Can't wait to start the next one, will it be as good with some characters missing?
