Summary

Mark Dawson (author of the best-selling John Milton series) continues the action-packed quest for revenge begun by Beatrix Rose in In Cold Blood.

Ten years ago, Beatrix Rose headed an off-the-books hit squad that did the dirty work of the British Government. When she discovered that the commander of the squad was corrupt, he sent five of his assassins to rub her out.

But they failed. Bad mistake.

There were six names on Beatrix's Death List, and now there are four. She's going to account for the others, one by one, even if it kills her.

Beatrix has returned from Somalia with a fresh target in her sights. Bryan Duffy is in Iraq, surrounded by mercenaries, with no easy way to get to him and no easy way to get out.

Will Duffy prove to be a challenge too far?

Fans of In Cold Blood will know all about the unlimited action, but until you've listened to Blood Moon Rising, you'll only know one third of the story!

Absolutely brilliant

I listened to this book immediately on the back of its predecessor and that following one there was connected in the series. I never previously knew of the author or the narrator. This one amazed me when it finished because it seems to be in the middle of something that's continuing. I'm now rushing off to buy the next one immediately.

Heart Stopping

What did you like most about Blood Moon Rising?

The fast paced story and accuracy of the people and places.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Blood Moon Rising?

The rescue of the boy from prison in Iraq.

Have you listened to any of Mark Deakins’s other performances? How does this one compare?

Yes. The previous novel in this series. Well read again..

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

yes but at 5 hours + I listened in chunks of about an hour.

Any additional comments?

I thought that the previous Beatrix Rose outing was good but this is better. A fast moving plot with action from the beginning. It is a great story with a knowledge of places and culture that I would previously not been interested in. It had heart stopping excitement where you thought that the heroine would not complete her task.. I really enjoyed this story and hope to buy more from this author.

Another excellent Beatrix Rose story

Beatrix Rose is, for me, the more interesting than John Milton, Mark Dawson's other ex-Group 15 alumni lead character. The framing device of her story arc - which I will not reveal - is an interesting choice.

Once again Mark Deakins' performance, featuring such odd pronunciations as Dur-ban for the city in RSA and the Heckler and Coke machine gun, subtracts from the overall score.

Author somewhat overdoes the sickness side of things.
Otherwise great listen to a terrific series

two roses for Beatrix

Beatrix Rose continues her vendetta against those the six who , years previously, killed her husband and stole her daughter. Finally reunited with he and with time rapidly running out, BeTrix needs to keep her safe and that can only be achieved if her betrayers are dead.
Although a story of an assassin on the hunt, it is also tender and thoughtful, beautifully crafted by the talented Mark Dawson. The narration I matches the novel's pace well and the vocalisation of the dialogue is excellent helping to bring the characters vividly to life.

This is the second of Mark Dawson's excellent Beatrix Rose trilogy, fast, thrilling and often unexpected. Best to read the first volume before this one but not essential, I can recommend it without reservation -buy it, listen and enjoy.

narrated very well. Gritty, exciting and it was super easy to finish. It's great to see the other side of the Milton stories

One more to go

I suppose I'll be listening to the last in this series. Beatrix is not as interesting or compelling as Milton. But I'll see it through..at least no really dodgy accents. Now much of a review I know.. Sorry. Ho hum..

Exciting and fast paced

Enjoyed immensely. A little too much rather obvious retrospective by Beatrix. Why oh why is there a male voice narrating a female story. The woman narrator in the Hong Kong stories was much better

Dig two graves

Another short novel, number 2 in the Beatrix Rose revenge series.
Entertaining throughout, well narrated, although I would perhaps prefer an english accent given that Beatrix is a British agent, having said that the story is compelling and vibrant.
My only criticism is the dialogue between Beatrix and Isabella. Until Isabella was identified as 13 years old I would have placed as being about seven by the manner in which she was presented.
I’m looking forward to the next and final instalment.
