Publisher's Summary

In the sixth volume of the bestselling Joe Dillard series, Dillard does something he has never done before - he hires a young associate. Her name is Charleston Story, she is bright and beautiful, and in her very first case, she winds up inheriting an item so valuable that it threatens to destroy her and everything she cares about. As Dillard tries to help and advise his young protege, he finds himself dragged into a web of danger and intrigue, a web so thick that he may never be able to extract himself.

    Story
    "Deserves six stars!"

This Joe Dillard novel, #6, is a bit darker than the first five, but it is superb. I do not understand why Scott Pratt does not get more attention as a legal thriller author. As always, Tim Campbell does a great job of narration.

Highly recommended, as are all prior books in the series.

    Story
    "Very, very good."

Everything was excellent about this audio book. Not great literature, but otherwise great. In fact, the prose fits the characters and place.

    Story
"More of the Dillard Family, PLEASE!"
Where does Blood Money rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

Hard to rank among hundreds of books over several years. However, among this particular series, this one ties with first place. I love that Jack is studying law and is clerking for his father. Also fascinating is that he fell in love with Charlie, a young woman who reminds Joe of Jack's mother.

Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?

Plot kept me in my seat. This story and a margarita was very relaxing. The rape story would not have been missed if it was not included in the story. It had no relationship to the gold plot and the Italian gangsters from Philly. Although I really liked this story, it appeared the rape situation provided Joe with a case somehow that was totally irrelevant to the main plot. Almost insulting and a waste of another separate potential story.

    Which scene was your favorite?

If I shared, it would be a spoiler. Let's just say that it represents the love and strong bond between Charlie and her Uncle.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

I really hated for it to end.

    Any additional comments?

I appreciate that no profanity or racial slurs are used in the Dillard series.

    Story
"Is Money The Root Of All Evil?"

If you "found" or was "given" 50 million dollars and later learned that it's "blood" money, would you keep it? Charlie had that decision to make, but at what cost!?

I enjoyed this story. It's a straight-forward, easy to follow story even though it's packed with moving parts, scenes and interactions. This story shows how human/family connections and bonds can be devastated and ripped apart when a huge sum of money is involved. And, it shows how human decency shines through when pitted up against the promise of wealth beyond most people's wildest dreams. Also, this story has an interesting sub-subplot involving taxidermy....very interesting.

The narrator, Tim Campbell, did a very nice job.

    Story
    "Vivid Characters, Locations, and Themes--Plus!"

Many mysteries would be great with the original take on buried treasure that sustains this plot. What carries the work into 5-star territory for me is the depth of Pratt's characters and the all-too-realistic devastation of human bonds and human decency in light of the promise of great wealth. In his compassionate yet objective style, Pratt has us "look under the rug" at the corruption greed wreaks at every level: politics, community, friends, family, and the individual soul.

A memorable, well-crafted observation of the uglier passions that also provides some promise of hope, "Blood Money"has it all. From a desperate horse ride in the Tennessee hills where you feel every rock and shift of light, to the essential urge to protect the residual flicker of tenacity in the face of death, this mystery is packed with moving scenes and interactions. Well worth a credit.

What made the experience of listening to Blood Money the most enjoyable?

All of Joe Dillard keeps me hooked, but Blood Money was fantastic.

What did you like best about this story?

While I did not like this best, I am most interested in Caroline right now. She is the Dillard Family backbone, and the progressing Cancer is horrible. Since the announcement of it a couple books ago, I want her to get well.

Have you listened to any of Tim Campbell’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

He gets better and better. I thought he was alright when I heard the first book. I think he is amazing now.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

Caroline's ongoing struggle is hard to read, in a good way. She keeps everything so human.

Very good. Sad too. Decisions made in the past can and does effect the future. Love conquers all. Enjoy. Thank-you.

    Story
    "What happened to Sophia?"
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Yes, I've enjoyed all of these books, with a little question once in awhile. Plenty of mystery, wondering about the ending.

What does Tim Campbell bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Though I've read some reviews that don't like Tim Campbell, he's done a fine job, I think.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Yes.....until I fall asleep and have to go back the next day.

    Any additional comments?

What happened to Sophia, Jack's girlfriend who was burned badly. Can't even remember which book, but they were on their way to get married in the future. Did I miss a big "something" while falling asleep? All of a sudden Jack's falling for Charlie. What did I miss and where?
