Summary

Being a necromancer is kinda cool until you wake up half dead in a dumpster.

Cisco Suarez is into something bad. Wanted by police, drenched in the stink of dark magic, and nether creatures coming out of the woodwork. Is resurrection overrated or what?

This box set contains the first three Black Magic Outlaw novels (Dead Man, Shadow Play, and Heart Strings) all at one special omnibus price.

I just can't

This is a diary, not a narrative. I regret buying this with real money. It would've been more acceptable if I used monopoly money, but even then I'd request a refund. With it's "let me take 10 minutes to explain something on the first page" sense of direction and it's first-person injections at every opportunity, I would heavily recommend avoiding this book. It's advertised as "an adult Harry Potter," but it's more like his slower cousin who happened across the word necromancy and tried to use it in a sentence for the first time.

Could've been great, if only for the voice actor

What did you like best about Black Magic Outlaw, Books 1-3? What did you like least?

I like most the character's (and writer's) familiarity with Miami. I least like the voice actor, who failed to properly modulate his voice to convey emotion in stressful situations. Also, the main character's skillsets do not presipose him toward being a private eye. Yet somehow he can puzzle together unsolved crimes. I breaks the suspension of disbelief

What was one of the most memorable moments of Black Magic Outlaw, Books 1-3?

A vengeful poltergeist pursues the protagonist Cisco Suarez down Miami beach in a T-rex's body formed from nearby trash.

How did the narrator detract from the book?

He didn't indicate emotion on the part of the narrator Cisco Suarez to the degree to make him believable.

Was Black Magic Outlaw, Books 1-3 worth the listening time?

No.

Any additional comments?

Give this one a pass. Yeah, it's three books for the price of one, but even then the price isn't worth it. I will be requesting a refund ASAP.
