Summary

Jack Tagger is a frustrated journalist. His outspoken views have relegated him to the obituary page, and his paper's owner has decreed that his by-line will never again grace the front page. But Jack has stumbled across a peach of a story.

James Stomarti, rock musician extraordinaire, has died in a diving accident, and whilst researching the obituary, Jack realises that his glamorous widow may have had a vested interest in her husband's untimely death. Aided and abetted by Stomarti's eccentric sister and his own rather sexy young editor, Jack sets out to discover the truth....

Classic Hiaasen

I'm a big fan of the slightly tongue in cheek style of Carl Hiaasen's novels. Always has a strong message which is normally directed against the corrupt practices of big business, depoilers of the natural environment, bent politicians etc but delivered with a light touch and a wicked sense of humour. This book delivers many fronts and the performance of George Wilson is a perfect match

Carl Hiaasen story telling

Fun crime caper with Hiaasen’s usual cast of the mad, bad and dangerous to know. Feel the Florida heat, smell the ocean, be dazzled by the sunshine. Wonderful antidote to the dark days of the UK in January. Narrator perfect for the story and not too much radio ‘acting’. Thank you.

Usual High Standard

Hiaasen never fails with his array of wacky characters and humorous storyline that always score a few important points about Florida life in the modern age.

Loved it!

I’m very fond of Carl Hiaasen and I think this is one of his best. Funny as usual but quite exciting too, and nicely balanced, satisfactory plotting. I’m sorry it’s finished.

Hiaasen'ed Headlines

Well crafted, amusing romp through obituaries and bylines in a failing Florida newspaper. Cute comic tale of the death of a rock singer and all the actions and atrocities done by his "friends" to try to steal his last song. So many other threads inside this tale lead everywhere involving characters casual and not so casual to Jack.

The good narration does justice to Hiaasen's dialogue, adding tone and tension, humour and hilarity.

The length of the book really allows the reader to get fully engrossed in the goings on of what's going down.

VERY ENJOYABLE

As always, Mr Hiaasen delivers!

Great story bristling with brilliant satire, wit and just plain old hilarious hijinks!
Very well read by George Wilson...what a super combo!

Excellent, well worth a listen

Another classic adventure by Carl Hiaasen, sometimes ludicrous but somehow always maintaining that element of possibility that such things could really happen. Plenty of twists and turns, all expertly narrated by George Wilson.
