Summary
She kept moving forward. She didn't stop. She didn't look back.
Lily was abducted from outside her high school gates. For eight long years, she's been locked away from the outside world. During that time she's changed from a girl into a woman. She's had a baby. And now she has seized her chance and escaped.
Running for her life, with her daughter in her arms, she returns to her family and the life she used to know - to her much-loved twin sister, Abby; her mum; her high school boyfriend - and her freedom. But is it possible to go back?
Lily's perfect life as a teenager doesn't exist anymore. Since she's been gone, her family's lives have changed, too, in ways she never could have imagined. Her return, and the revelation of who took her, will send shock waves through the whole community.
Impossible not to listen to in one sitting, Baby Doll is a taut psychological thriller that focuses on family entanglements and the evil that can hide behind a benign facade.

terrible
I couldn't get into the story, mostly because the narrator had the most annoying voice! I really wanted to hear the story as the synopsis was good but no, I just couldn't as her voice was like nails on a chalk board. Especially when she did the child's voice! ARGH!!

Like a low-rent Room...
...with none of the tension, emotional depth, elegance of expression, credibility. Just awful. As deeply satisfying as a Hallmark card.

Cold and dreary
This is my first read by this author and chosen purely as on Richard and Judy bestseller list. It is the story of Lily who has been held captive abused mentally and physically since she was 16 and now 8 years later she has managed to escape with her daughter by her kidnapper Skye. She goes home and is reunited with her family.
This book is along the same lines as ‘Room’ but Lily has escaped from the start. I thought this book would be somewhat emotional and hard to take but it was really bland with the characters feeling distant and uninteresting. There were several ’scenes’ with different characters at play around the same time making it somewhat confusing.
The characters were quite odd. Lily appeared to recover quickly from her ordeal although she did accept counselling in the end. Her twin sister Abby had serious mental health issues and to be honest really irritated me. Their mother Evie was sleeping with every man that moved near her. Rick her captor has his story told too.
The end did tie everything up in a bow but obviously questions remain unanswered. This was OK very middle of the road.

Far Fetched, Fast Moving.
I don't know what to say about this one. It has become a Richard and Judy book club choice and has a similar subject matter as The Room. That is where the comparison ends.
Baby Doll stretches the imagination. Much of the plot is far fetched and left me tutting with annoyance but at no point did I want to give up. I wanted to see what happened, and where the author was going with this story.
The conclusion was neat and yes, far fetched So much happened in such a short period of time.
It was an absorbing listen but I won't remember it with any satisfaction.
The narrator did an excellent job and that is always a plus.

Bit slow to start but
Bear with it gets better with some interesting twists. Well narrated apart from some switch to male voice.

Rather slow but worth a listen
The characters are detailed and interesting but the performance irritated me, especially of the men. The plot is slow and could be fitted into half the amount of chapters. I listened to the end, though.

Brilliant, they should make this into a movie!
An inspirational story of strength, endurance and survival of a very brave woman! Great story line. I liked how we got to know all the characters and had jnsight into their lives and thinking, even the evil ones!
