Summary

Lee Arnold and Mumtaz Hakim run a detective agency in London's East End. But their latest case could have devastating consequences.

A new client, Nasreen, has sought Hakim's help. Recently moved to a new house, and with a baby on the way, this should be an exciting time- but Nasreen has made friends in the community that she cannot tell her husband, Abdullah, about. And when a murder takes place close to their home, Nasreen suspects that Abdullah also has something to hide.

This case is a challenge for the agency, but provides a timely warning to Mumtaz- debts spiralling, her life is in danger of spinning out of control.

Both women are on a path towards destruction, as the consequences of ignoring their instincts become ever more dangerous...

A an act of kindness

This was a tale of twist and turns . It was a story which touched on the very modern topic of mouth cultural Britain which made for a more interesting read and a look into other drivers says of livjng. Excellent

Great story

This was a terrific story. I listened to it all the way through despite the narrator. Thornley read the book with strange inflections, skipping past important parts and emphasizing trivialities. The story is quite involved, but he didn’t pause between sections, so it was hard to keep track of changes of scenes and characters.

Poorly timed!

I'm afraid that Ms. Nadel or Mr. Thornley have developed a very bad habit of leaping about the threads of the narrative in a very disconcerting way.
This is the second of the Hakim and Arnold books and up until the 20th chapter I was really enjoying it. Now I have to keep 'rewinding' to find out who they're talking about. One second we are in a Jewish Cemetary in the middle of a murder the next making ginger tea with a mynah bird!
It's very offputting and marks the end of my purchases of the Nadel Novels.

Second enjoyable read in this series

I just happened upon this series & I'm so happy that I did! Nice easy listening, well narrated & well paced, I have enjoyed both books about this crime-fighting duo & will definitely be listening to the next one soon!

Another good listen

Wide ranging story with many parallel themes including religion, crime, politics, self respect and others.

Plenty of enjoyable characters to look forward to in part 3
