Summary

A glamorous cruise on a luxurious ocean liner turns deadly in the latest mystery from "Queen of Suspense" and number-one New York Times best-selling author Mary Higgins Clark.

Fleeing a disastrous and humiliating arrest of her husband-to-be on the eve of their wedding, Celia Kilbride, a gems and jewelry expert, hopes to escape from public attention by lecturing on a brand-new cruise ship - the Queen Charlotte.

Onboard she meets 86-year-old Lady Emily Haywood - "Lady Em", as she is known throughout the world. Immensely wealthy, Lady Em is the owner of a priceless emerald necklace that she intends to leave to the Smithsonian after the cruise.

Three days out to sea, Lady Em is found dead - and the necklace is missing. Is it the work of her apparently devoted assistant, Brenda Martin, or her lawyer-executor, Roger Pearson, and his wife, Yvonne, both of whom she had invited to join them on the cruise? Or is it Professor Henry Longworth, an acclaimed Shakespeare scholar who is lecturing onboard? Or Alan Davidson, a guest on the ship who is planning to spread his wife's ashes at sea? The list of suspects is large and growing. Celia, with the help of her new friends Willy and Alvirah Meehan, who are celebrating their 45th wedding anniversary, sets out to find the killer, not realizing that she has put herself in mortal danger before the ship reaches its final destination.

Never, in all her long career as a number-one best-selling suspense novelist, has Mary Higgins Clark been in better form.

Another Winner

I love the Alvira and Willie books that Mary Higgins Clark writes and Jan Maxwell's performances are superb.

Good but not great

I love Mary Higgins Clark and have read/listened to all her books. This one was a little off. The Story was great, the narration too. It was a bit repetitive though. I kept hearing the same phrases and thought I had somehow skipped backed in listening. It was enjoyable for sure. It kept you wondering til close to the end, like her novels do. Just know about the repetition and you won't be surprised when you hear the same phrase more than once. I would still recommend it.

Disappointing...

I had high expectations for this book because the story seemed fun and exciting, a who-done-it at sea. Needless to say, there was very little suspense, character development or surprises in this story. I didn’t even like the main character. She wasn’t gutsy or spunky or anything, and you really didn’t get to know her. Everything wrapped up too easily in the end and there was a plot point that was left hanging. Not worth the money spent on it.

It was okay. Not my favorite MHC. Didn't care too much for the narrator's style.

Not typical Mary Higgins Clark

I love Mary Higgins Clark and have read all of her other books; however, this one was really hard to get into and finish! For some reason, it was hard to connect with the characters. there was a lot more information about unimportant things and not a lot of feeling to the story. Also, it seemed like every time the story got moving, it was slowed down by unnecessary details. It wasn't until the last few chapters in the book that I really connected with the characters and was interested in the mystery. I anxiously await her next book and will definitely read it. just disappointed in this one.

Enough twists to stay interested

Recited very well. Enticing story. Listened before bed and would often stay up to late having to hear the next chapter!
