Fun and Games - very good but not his best

First book of Brookmyre's that I've listened to but have read a number before.

The story moves along at a good pace, has his usual blend of dry wit and brutal parts which both lead to an enjoyable story.

Slow starter, then entertaining throughout

A thoroughly enjoyable tale that gets you on the edge of your seat one minute and laughing out loud the next. Slow to start, but well worth the wait, with great characters and disbelief only suspended slightly.

Not what I was expecting

In the first chapter I had to go back and check I was reading the right book. It’s all tactical and technical. I struggled through the first few chapters but ultimately was glad I stuck to it. The story evolves and gets more interesting. There was a bit too much technical talk that wasn’t actually very complicated but felt like the author was trying to prove something rather than inform the reader. The story arc of the main character was interesting. I loved the interactions with the Glasgow gangster. There is a terrible sex scene at one point that seems incongruous to the rest of the book. The father son interactions were good. The narrator was good. Overall I ended up enjoying it.

A delightful combination of 007 and real life

We listened as we travelled to, during and from our holiday in Norfolk. Thoroughly engaging, entertaining and enthralling, this story and it's wonderful performance will be indelibly woven into the memories of an outstanding escape from the hurley burly of our working lives. Not without choice language but pretty much always in context.

Glorious

This was a fun romp full of crazy escapism. It could be argued this book is a bit silly with a self-referenced similarity to some of the old Bond movies but I enioyed it. It's just a fun, well written book with a decent plot. The narration was wonderful too. I'm not sure where to look next: more books by this author or more by the narrator?!

Enjoyable romp, albeit a tad unbelievable

Would you listen to All Fun and Games Until Somebody Loses an Eye again? Why?

Eventually, but there is a few more ahead of it in the list

What was one of the most memorable moments of All Fun and Games Until Somebody Loses an Eye?

Chaos Cottage. Gripping.

Which character – as performed by Sarah Barron – was your favourite?

Mrs Fleming

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

No. It's not that type of book

Any additional comments?

I love Christopher Brookmyre. A great storey teller, particularly when introducing humour. This wasn't one of those, but still stands put as a excellent thriller.
