Publisher's Summary

In a freak collision when she was 12, Mia Germaine faced death and the loss of her father. A heart transplant from a young murder victim saved her life, but not without a price. Twenty years later, chilling nightmares about an unresolved homicide begin to plague Mia. Compelled by these lost memories, she forms a complicated connection to the victim - the girl killed the night of Mia's accident - due to a scientific phenomenon called "organ memory."

Now suffocating beneath the weight of avenging a dead girl and catching a serial killer on the loose dubbed the "Triangle Terror," Mia must dodge her own demons while unimaginable truths torment her - along with a killer set on making her his next victim.

As Mia tries to determine if her dreams are clues or disturbing phantasms, uninvited specters lead her further into danger's path, costing her the one person who can save her from herself. A Secondhand Life weaves a tale of second chances and reclaimed dreams as this taut, refreshing story ensnares and penetrates you.

    "What a story..."

My first thought when listening to this was, that this is a genre I don't normally listen to, what I would call supernatural crime or supernatural noir.

And my second thought was that the author Pamela Crane has put a lot of research into the supernatural side of it.

The characters are well rounded and believeable, Mia is tanacious, the other characters all fit in and play their part well.

Unlike some crime novels, the clues in this story drip in an unatroosive way

The serial killer in the shadows is both human and monster in equal measure.

The conclusion I did not see coming, a sad but fitting end to a story that was both harrowing and brilliant in its own right. Definitely will get the rest of the series.

    "Fab"

I really enjoyed this audio book.
It involves organ memory and so much more.
I wasn't expecting half of what's involved and it just kept going.
The narrator was good and had a good mix of thought voices and spoken voices.
Definitely a book to listen or read!

    "A secondhand Life"
What did you love best about A Secondhand Life?

This is a great book! I was caught up right in the beginning. So tragic to lose one of your parent in an accident. But to have to have a heart transplant to save your own life. This book was compelling .

"great book with a different subject"
    Any additional comments?

What a great book, such a different storyline, after all, how common is organ memory. That in itself encouraged me to listen to this book that the author sent me a code from audible.

Twenty years after a car accident after which Mia received a heart donation things get going in her life with dreams or nightmares from her past, or is it really her past, could it be the past of the original “owner” of the heart. What really happened to the girl who donated her heart?
Mia and the victims sister, Langdon, set out to find out what really happened all those years ago.
I rather enjoyed that parts from the point of view of the killer which were chilling in parts. There were some surprises that I didn’t see coming and I had no idea of the ending until it actually happened. Well done, a good read with a different subject.

This is the second in a series but can be read as a standalone.

    "Excellent listen"
    Any additional comments?

What a story! This is a corker of a listen. I really felt for poor Mia and her unresolved issues. Her characterisation is very clever because at times she's annoying and at times she's inspiring and that makes her so believable. I thought I had the ending all figured out, was patting myself on the back with an air of smugness. Pride comes before a fall!! I was NOT expecting that! Ms Crane, you are a sneaky one! The narration by Melanie Carey is excellent. Definitely a 5 star recipient!

    "So Frustrating!!!!"

**I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.**

I am sooooo bitter about this book, I can barely type this review! It started out great, I was intrigued and entertained by the story, the second I started listening. Then I was extremely disappointed when I figured out who the killer was, to what I can only assume waaaaaay before the author intended. I kept listening, hoping I was wrong, I wasn't. I was hoping there was a shocking twist, there wasn't.
