Summary

Crushed by the betrayal of her husband and best friend, DCI Logan is forced to put her private life on hold while she investigates the remains of an unknown murder victim, buried 25 years earlier. With her new DC, Tristan Fry, who has joined the police force for all the wrong reasons, her enquiries soon lead her to Maggi Drew's door.

Maggi, a scrub nurse, readily admits to burying the body along with her partner, Norah, a virtuoso oboist, and their best friend, Jonny, an A+E nurse, though she will not reveal the body's identity until Logan has heard her account of the murder.

As the story unravels so do the lives of Logan and Fry as they lose the battle to remain professional, causing their personal emotions to color their judgements.

This eagerly awaited second novel by award-winning author Juliet Cromwell explores what hate can make us do when forced to face true evil.

Shocking, compelling, riveting.

A Line of Provenance is the kind of book that if you were watching it on TV would have you peeking behind your fingers. Juliet Cromwell rips open the shirt, bares the chest and hacks into the flesh of several emotive issues from start to finish. You will love characters and despise others but all of them have a place in this cleverly thought out plot.

Wonderful Story

Loved the story. A body has been found and Detective Logan and Constable Fry are given the case. There follows the story of a family, torn apart by tragedy and the consequences for them all. Not sure why it was set in the near future, how that was important to the story, apart from changes in the technology used by the police, I couldn’t see it.
I would like to ‘read’ another story with Detective Logan in it, as we only had the bare bones of her character in this one.
The narration was great and I could immerse myself in it. I listen as I walk my dogs and found myself going for longer, so I could fit in another few chapters..

A tough subject written a light touch.

Great story, holds you until the last page. Love the main character, a tough subject matter written with care and dark humour . Really challenges your moral compass and what you would do in the same situation. I shall be listening to the other book by this author and hope she writes many more.

Wonderful

Absolutely wonderful. This was my first experience of Audible and it was really good . I had searched for Juliet Cromwell, because I had read her first book, Perception of Sin, which was one of the most amazing books I’ve ever read. So I was delighted to find ‘A Line of Provenance’ listed. A bit different from the first one, more of a ‘whodunnit’ but still with a twist or two and a moral tale that I’ve debated well into the night with friends.
Would I recommend Ms Cromwell’s books? Most definitely. She’s got a real edge!
