Summary

Back when they were students, Simon and his friend, Ray, had dreams to become rock stars. Fifteen years later their mid-30s are bearing down fast, and they're having to accept a less glamorous life.

Ray takes refuge from his responsibilities by living a virtual existence in online games. People say he needs to grow up, but everybody finds their own way of coping.

But for Simon it's serial murder, mass slaughter and professional assassination.

Never fails to entertain

Probably not his best book but, nevertheless, very entertaining, very humorous and a good listen on a wet, windy trek by the seaside!

A good in depth story

Thought this was interesting with a lot of background on the main characters. It caught me out a couple of times when I thought it was going to get predictable, but it didn’t.

Brilliant. but....

disappointed to hear Rank Bajin pronounced Bajeen. it's Bad yin. Bud Neill turning in his grave. other than that it's unbeatable vintage Christopher Brookmyre.

School teacher sucked into terrorist attack

Great performance, lots of thrills, dry humour, Scots lingo, music and Gen X gamer references

What a romp!

Loved this book. Also love the voice of Steve Worsley. The story twists and messes with your mind. I was sad when it finished. Hang on. There’s two more books in this series. Highly recommend

Super story - beautifullyl narrated

Unlikely heroes, lovely twisted plot and well crafted accents that I love. Beautifully narrated with an interesting exploration of less known power plants. This book feels like it was fun to write and has been assembled from expert knowledge of all key areas from pre-PC computer games to terrorist mentality. Utterly compelling.

Entertaining and witty

A very enjoyable book even though it was like a cynical rant bomb exploding. I really liked the characters and Brookmyre has a very witty turn of phrase which made me smile throughout.
The narration was superb. Beautifully read and the accent was wonderful.
There were chapters that had you on the edge of the seat though I felt it went on longer than was necessary in places. I look forward to listening to more Brookmyre sometime.
