About this listen

An unusual crime requires an unusual detective ...

An undercover officer goes missing and the body of a young man is found mutilated in a shop doorway. Is there a connection? Returning to work after a short convalescence, DCI Brendan Moran’s suspicions are aroused when a senior officer insists on freezing Moran out and handling the investigation himself.

A second murder convinces Moran that a serial killer is on the loose but with only a few days to prove his point the disgruntled DCI can't afford to waste time.

As temperatures hit the high twenties, tempers fray, and the investigation founders Moran finds himself coming back to the same question again and again: can he still trust his own judgement, or is he leading his team up a blind alley?

Creatures of Dust is the second book in the popular DCI Brendan Moran crime series.

I found this through the wonderful narrator Aubrey Parsons. Fun book with interesting characters. Will read more in the series

This book was quite a step up in levels of intrigue and excitement from Hunter's first. Moran is charged with investigating the body of a dead Muslim boy - a case which grows arms and legs and crosses into undercover narcotics territory. The overall plot, the motives and behaviours of the antagonist, and the level of blatant corruption among the police force are a little over the top and hard to accept as realistic, but the overall book, the dialogue between characters, and the pace of the storytelling make this quite a gripping tale. For once, I genuinely did not see the twist coming until quite late on (though now the blurb makes it quite obvious).
This step up in quality has given me a desire to continue with the Moran books.

Gripping twisting thriller

The second book in the series and this audiobook was an enjoyable listen. The narrator, Aubrey Parsons, is a favourite of mine and does a great job as always although I feel the irish accent is almost absent at the start of the book and becomes quite strong later on.
The storyline is well written and kept me entertained while I listened. Looking forward to more in this series.
