Summary

Ella's always heard voices and because of them, she ends up institutionalized at a young age. Everyone calls her crazy and she believes she is too until the night she meets a vampire and for the first time in her life, the voices shut up.

Zane just wants to enjoy his usual blood buffet; instead he runs into a wisp of a woman who makes him feel emotions he thought long dead. Rescuing her from the insane asylum, he brings her home, determined to seduce and feed from her, a plan that is foiled by ghostly voices determined to keep Ella untouched. But not even poltergeists can stand in the way of a vampire in love.

A Great Paranormal Romance That's Also Fun To Read

This has been my favourite story that I have read by Eve Langlais. I found it very easy to read, the plot had enough mystery to keep me wondering what would happen next and I loved both of our main characters - Ella and Zane - they had all the traits that I look for in leading characters. If this was a longer book, I would have loved to get to know Zane's butler and cook more too.

I downloaded the audio version of this book and was very impressed with the narration. It is the first time I have listened to a story with 2 narrators. Both Summer Morton and Lee Samuels are new-to-me but I enjoyed their performances; how they read this story, the pace at which they read certain scenes and how they varied their tones.

My only niggle was with how Ms Langlais dealt with the threat on Ella's life; I felt it came to a head too quickly and the conclusion was too easy. It was a bit of an "oh, was that it" moment.

There is no perilous life or death cliffhanger ending (woo!hoo!) and I look forward to reading book 2.

Really bad

Save your money. One of the worst books ever, unless you like incredibly vulgar language. Even though it is a vampire story, the vampire is jerk and the heroine has surpassed being easily the stupidest person on earth. I was rolling my eyes so much my husband thought I was having a seizure. Could not finish the book.

erotica not developed story

plenty of components but no flush except on the erotica. Erotica is what it is but without compelling story can't say it's worth much...sorry

Disappointed

Downloaded to be one of my summer fluff books to read by the pool while I watch the kids. Something easy and silly. Even with low expectations I was disappointed. Storyline had potential, but that’s about the only positive thing I can say. Blah.

Just couldn’t like it.

I usually love Eve Langlais’ plots and characters. I find her prose literate and amusing. Usually.
I could not bring myself to like either plot or characters in this book. I got over halfway through, with many stops and starts. Finally, I just didn’t start again. Maybe some would like this book, but it just about turned me off Eve Langlais.

I must have been Crazy...

The synopsis and reviews gave me hope that this could be a good story, but sadly I was disappointed. The only saving grace was the big reveal/cliffhanger ending, but I will not continue this series.

Cute paranormal (all anglo) love story. Well made!

Very creative story of a special little girl abandoned. Grows older unloved & yearning to have someone to accept her & love/lust after her. Paranormal mildly erotic story. All anglo characters.. Happy ending.

Very Entertaining

This is the second time that I've read this book and I still find it just as entertaining as when I first read it. Now, am about to read the second and I hope it's just as good as the first. It should because the author hasn't let me down as of yet with her stories.

The Couple that Slays Together Stays Together

Having recently joined Audible Escape was looking for fun supernatural romances. Came across this and Werewolves, Vampires and Demons, Oh My Series. This did not have as many sex scenes as that series but also wasn't as good overall. There was less humor more drama in this story and the very childlike demeanor of the main character Ella was not enjoyable and not really sexy either given that she is pairing with a very old vamp (even if they retain youth). There is also lots of displays of jealousy and raging out that apparently inspires arousal for the couple, like murdering someone together gets us so hot we need to immediately have sex at the scene. It just felt less sexy more this all feels a little psychotic and mentally unhinged. As mentioned this does have explicit sex scenes, discussions of abusive/rape behavior, cussing, and violence.

If I had paid for this or used a credit I would have been disappointed especially as this is only a 4 hour audible, but it was available for Audible Escape members to borrow. The one interesting character in this tale for me is a powerful Vampire the couple seeks counsel from called Felicia who is apparently the focus on the second book in this series. So I may check it out for that reason alone, but overall I prefer the Werewolves, Vampires and Demons, Oh My Series to this. I have not however read any of Langlais's other series so cannot speak to them. If you are looking for romance supernatural humor with slightly less smut I recommend Molly Harper. If you are looking for total fluff supernatural romance with no smut you could go read Kristen Painter. The narrators did well for what the story was and the concept of hearing voices and ghosts was actually a very intriguing concept to me and a different one from the typical cast of supernatural characters but overall just landed a little flat for me.
