Adrienne's only possessions are a suitcase of luggage, 20 dollars, and her pet cat. Ashburn House is a lifeline she can't afford to refuse. Story
I began to suspect something was wrong with the gothic building when its family fled in the middle of the night, the children screaming, the mother crying. They never came back to pack up their furniture. A new occupant, Anna, has just moved in. I paid her a visit to warn her about the building. I didn't expect us to become friends, but we did. And now that Marwick House is waking up, she's asked me to stay with her. I never intended to become involved with the building or its vengeful, dead inhabitant. But now I have to save Anna.

Story
She's always watching.... When Guy finds the deeds to a house in his mother's attic, it seems like an incredible stroke of luck. Sure, the building hasn't been inhabited in 40 years and vines strangle the age-stained walls, but Guy is convinced he can clean it up and sell it. He'd be crazy to turn down free money. Right? The house is hours from any other habitation, and Guy can't get phone reception in the old building. He decides to camp there while he does repairs. Surely nothing too bad can happen in the space of a week. But there's a reason no one lives in Rookward House, and the dilapidated rooms aren't as empty as they seem....

Summary
Daniel is desperate for a job. When someone slides a note under his door offering him the groundskeeper’s position at an old estate, it seems too good to be true.
Alarm bells start ringing when he arrives at Craven Manor. The mansion’s front door hangs open, and leaves and cobwebs coat the marble foyer. It’s clear no one has lived there in a long time.
But an envelope waits for him inside the doorway. It contains money and promises more.
Daniel is desperate. Against his better judgement, he moves into the groundskeeper’s cottage behind the crypt. He’s determined to ignore the strange occurrences that plague the estate.
But when a candle flickers to life in the abandoned tower window, Daniel realizes Craven Manor is hiding a terrible secret...one that threatens to bury him with it.

Great listen, went through it in about 3 days. I usually read/listen to Stephen King, but find him a little long winded at times. Craven Manor got straight to the point with a likable main character.

Strange and not scary
I was really looking forward to this book and I had it on my wish list for a couple of years. I am a big fan of horror but this sadly left me so disappointed.
The book is based on Daniel who is sweet but a bit of a drip. It is obviously written by an older person as the thoughts of Daniel are very unlike those of a young man!
I can't be bothered to write a long review but what I will say is that the book is not scary, the story is just weird and it doesn't seem to make very much sense or have a very good ending. The ghosts don't find peace. I would not recommend this book.

A Gem
Well I'm not going to beat around the Bush, I have found Darcy's work hit and miss. Some books flowed and you cannot wait for the next part, almost compulsive reading but some I've truly struggled with. Some seem to be just repetitions of previous plots which is a shame as when she is on to something she shines.
This book I found thoroughly engaging and enjoyable. Her twist on afterlife spirits are interesting, I was hoping it wouldn't be a tele porting zombie again and was pleasantly impressed. This one definitely was enjoyable from start to finish with the odd frustration throughout but not enough to destroy anything at all. Darcy is a talented writer but you get the feel some of her books are a rush to fulfill a contract, this one is definitely not the case. Highly recommend this one, reminded me of 'The Moondial' principle which made the setting more enjoyable.

Frustrating protagonist
I’ve just started reading this author. I really like the Carrow Haunt, but I had to force myself to finish Craven Manor. I just could not get over how dumb this protagonist is. If he can make a wrong choice, he does it every single time. Which was a problem since he is in a bluebeard’s wife type of scenario. You knew that as soon as he got that list of things he was forbidden to do, that he would do every one them. He doesn’t even last 24 hours. He also believes anything he is told, and lets other people form his opinions for him. It was frustrating to listen to him make mistake after mistake. I don’t know how he could have survived on the street without gaining any street smarts. The narrator was just okay. His German accent was unrecognizable and his voices weren’t very distinct (terrible since there were very few characters with speaking parts), but his pronunciations were fine and the audio quality is good. Very disappointing all around.

Was this a teen's school project?
I don't understand the positive reviews on this book. I dearly LOVED Hunted so when I read the summary for this book I clicked "purchase" at lightening speed. I thought this would be more of a thriller, it's not even remotely scary. It's more of a supernatural creature drama. I was very bored and unimpressed. The only good thing I have to say about this was that the main character was pretty likeable and when I managed to keep listening I found myself rooting for him. Overall, very silly book that I feel should be advertised as something more for YA.

Amazing
An amazing story. I could not put this one down an finished it in 4 days. A story of a man down on his luck quickly transforms into a delightful paranormal thriller. I will be purchasing many more books from this author. I dare say it's the best work of fiction I've ever read. The narrator made an excellent performance as well. I hope this book becomes a Series, as I don't want to leave Craven Manor just yet. If you have any doubt, get this book. You will be hooked.

Awful narrator
Is this book had been read by a competent British narrator would have been more bearable. Will Damson’s performance was almost childlike and the story became ridiculous. None of the characters was developed to any degree and the writing got to be just annoying. I’m so surprised by the positive reviews.
