About this listen

I am completely and obsessively in love with my best friend's sister.

Twenty years ago I was saved by the Volkov brothers and I made a vow… to protect their younger sister, Lara, with my life.

And not a day goes by that I don’t take that seriously.

She is my best friend and the keeper of my sanity.

And when our enemies try to take her from me, they will pay the price with their life.

I told her one kiss wouldn’t ruin our friendship.

I was so very wrong.

She is sweeter than any addiction.

I may be crazy, but that is nothing in comparison to the way I feel about my pchelka.

So I take matters into my own hands; I will never go back on my promise.

Even if that means watching her as she sleeps.

Except, what I didn’t realize, is this was never about protection, I did all of this out of love.

With her, I stand to lose everything.

Without her, I lose my mind… and my heart. Even when we’re torn apart, there isn’t a single force on this earth that can stop me from protecting her.

Not even her brothers.

I can save her from any dangers in the outside world, but will my love be enough to save her from the demons in her mind?

Luna Mason did it againnnnn! 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼

This is everything you want in a dark romance—intense, addictive, and impossible to put down.

Alexei and Lara have a relationship that is equal parts fire and fragility. Alexei is broody with a shadowed past, but all his demons vanish whenever he’s with Lara. She completes him in every possible way, both falling for each other the moment they met.

Every moment between them is fuelled with so much tension, heartache, and soul-stirring passion. Their love isn’t easy, but it’s real—messy, all-consuming, and utterly beautiful.

Alexei is actually HILARIOUS!! I was constantly in stitches from him getting words mixed up to his inner monologues, he’s just so innocent and I love him so much 🥹

Don’t tell the others, but I think Alexei is now my favourite 🤫🦩💗

I’m so freaking ready for Claim!! ⛓️

Here’s to finding someone who loves you not despite your flaws, but because of them. There is someone out there who will give you the whole world, not just half of it. And maybe, it will be an unhinged biker who tells you to look at your reflection in his visor to see how pretty you are when you come undone for him. It’s time to get on your knees and welcome Alexei…

He’s ready to take you on a wild ride. The narration is in duet by Joe Arden and Angelina Rocca and it is absolutely beautiful, the emotion is raw and at times all consuming if left me needing to listen to the next chapter, the story seemly flows and Joe’s portrayal of Alexei is absolutely stunning and touched my heart in a way that I don’t think I will ever forget. I've been eagerly waiting Alexei’s story and it certainly didn't disappoint, there is just something about him that you can’t help but like him, especially when his grip of English takes on a whole new meaning.

The prologue is heartbreaking hearing about his childhood where he already has a sweet addition, his salvation from a brutal father. You learn about his chance meeting with Mikhail and Nikolai how they become friends and give him a purpose in life of protecting their sister Lara, a job you just knew he would take seriously even from a young age.

From then on to present day he spends his time working for Mikhail but his top priority is making sure Lara is cared for, loved and protected. Lara is withdrawn, believing that she has major body and easting issues and feels she has never been enough for anyone but Alexei sees all of her even what she thinks are her flaws and he loves her despite them, they slowly and nervously navigate their feelings for each other but when they share a fateful kiss this changes everything for them.
When Lara is kidnapped Alexei sells his soul to the devil to get information to get her back, but when the debt is called in it leaves them both fighting to keep themselves alive and together.

There are twists and turns and Luna Mason writing deals with the sensitivity of Alexei and Lara’s issues with such care it makes it easy to relate even in the smallest scale. I cannot recommend this audiobook enough and add into the mix Alexei’s pet flamingo called Sheila you just can’t go wrong.

I have such a soft spot for Alexei and was really looking forward to his story although after the set up in Caged, this didn't go in the direction I thought it would and started before the incident at the party. I liked the peek into Alexei and Lara's relationship before the kidnapping as although we've seen both characters in previous books establishing their dynamic outwith the others let the will they/won't they vibe play out a little longer. This was a solid three star for me, as even though there was lots that I liked, there were a couple of plot points that weren't quite fleshed out enough for me to give it four stars. I suspect they will be picked up again in the next book but there were a couple of nagging details that were just dropped which I was waiting to circle back to in the context of Alexei's story rather than being a breadcrumb for the next book.

Both the narrators give great performances in this dual narration and there are plenty of emotionally charged moments in the short POV chapters. Lara broke my heart as her struggles were overlooked for so long by those closest to her and her reaction to her brother getting married made so much more sense having seen this side of her. Similarly to Jax's struggles in book one, there is not a magic cure for Lara's mental health and she is shown to work for it. Alexei had been comic relief previously and seeing his possessive side was a gear change initially. He still has his moments (particularly around anyone who isn't Lara) and his love for Sheila knows no bounds. Tatiana is still someone I have my eye on and looks like Enzo does too; Daddy Volkov isn't on page in this one but still manages to cast a long shadow and seems ready to make a reappearance soon.
