Summary

When Pentandra got married and took a new job, she knew it would be tough.

Ducal Court Wizard is supposed to be the cushiest of assignments for a mage, full of stipends, laboratories, and expense funds. But when you join the Orphan Duke’s expedition to reclaim, recapture, and restore his shattered realm to health, you have to expect things to be...less cushy.

With the south in full rebellion, the goblins stirring on the northern frontier, and the summer capital being run by a corrupt baron and a gang of thugs, things could be better. But those aren’t the worst of her problems: Pentandra is learning how to live with her new husband, Arborn, while the town is driven to distraction by an incarnate sex goddess who is organizing all of the whores, a mopey spellmonger, a nun addicted to gambling, a prude sent by the queen, undead skulking through the shadows, and a mysterious blind girl shows up in her office claiming to be her new apprentice!

It’s enough to drive any woman mad, but Pentandra is not just any woman...she’s the hope of the Alshari Wilderlands, the woman everyone knows as the Court Wizard!

...

If you are buying this audiobook then hopefully you have listened to the previous seven.

If so, there is nothing I could say that would change your opinion.

If you haven't listened to the other seven, listen to them and see above :)

A must buy!!

Had to buy this even though I've just purchased the kindle version! highly entertaining and the series just keeps growing, no series is as complete and full as the spellmonger series. If your on the fence, just buy it, perfect mix of story and hints of comedy, with splashes of action!

EXCELLENT

I love that these books are long and allow time for character and plot development. Cannot wait for the next.

Starts a bit slow but doesn't disappoint

Switching the story to Pentandra is a bit of a disconnect but it all pulls togethet.

He does it again!

This book is amazing. I love the way the author writes and explains two different aspects of the same event. I’ve always loved Lady Pentandra and this story gives more depth to her character from her own point of view. This is by far my favorite book/audio book series.

Worst of the best

I love this series it’s a great one full of good characters and compelling plot. But most of this book is just the last book told from Penny’s perspective. Which would have been more interesting if it wasn’t most of the same material. The end did move the plot forward, a little. But there is not a lot of set up groundwork done for the last book.

Sometimes alternative views make for a good story

while most of this book is a recount or the last from another point of view it was not long until I was enjoying the story even though I knew parts of it.

ok but the weakest since knights magi

nicely performed as always but the story is nonsensical at parts. it's like the story took off and the author is stretching side stories into full length stories. not a bad read but not as good as the earlier stuff.

Feudal politics at its finest

I love high fantasy. And how the rules of the world that are created can be bent and broken. But I also love seeing how even the political structure is set up and how to make it bend to the power of those willing to bend them to there will. This book does both of those things in spades.

Story is not as good as the first few books

I thought the earlier books in the series were better. The story kind of dragged for me.
