Summary

The second novel in the Lindsay Gordon series.

A protest group hits the headlines when unrest at a women’s peace camp explodes into murder. Already on the scene, journalist Lindsay Gordon desperately tries to strike a balance between personal and professional responsibilities. As she peels back the layers of deception surrounding the protest and its opponents, she finds that no one - ratepayer or reporter, policeman or peace woman - seems wholly above suspicion. Then Lindsay uncovers a truth that even she can scarcely believe.

Not her best

Thin story. And not helped by draggy narrator. Struggled to finish it. Glad to get to end

Excellent

Very good as usual for this author. She keeps you guessing! Looking forward to the next one!

Disappointing

I am an avid McDermid fan and it’s the first time I felt disappointed with any of her work.
A thin story, too short and felt extremely rushed at the end.
It’s put me off finishing the remaining series.
Let’s hope the next stand alone gamble pays off.

Such a disappointment

Not what I expected from Val McDermid. I was aware that this book was not like the others from this author I have read, but I did expect to be gripped from chapter one. Now on chapter six and can’t see me going much further. I can’t get involved with any of the characters, although this does have a lot to do with the narration, which is poorly done.

Strange

This was a bit of a strange book, I didn't really get into this book, it was like it was hard listen too. the story line was ok! but not as interesting as previous books.

Much better than the last one.

I’m glad I decided to give this series another go after the dreadful last novel. This is a huge improvement. More believable plot and better narration without the high pitched voices. On to read the next

My least favourite Val McDermid book to date

Read lots by this author but this is by far my least favourite. Really couldn’t like any of the characters especially the journalist. After reading quite a few chapters I couldn’t even remember her name. Due to eye problems I had to listen to an audible version of this book and I couldn’t enjoy that. The narration was jerky and a bit odd. I will certainly read more of this author’s work but am struggling to finish this one..

awful narration

great book but very hard to concentrate on the story with all the dodgy accents going on. Not even sure what some of them are supposed to be. if I hadn't already invested in the rest of the series (based on Author alone) I would not have continued.

Okay

Not sure how I feel about this book, I did enjoy listening but the end was very rushed and somewhat incomplete?

Spoiled by narration

Not the best story I’ve read by Val McDermid but I’d bought 2 for 1 and needed a book to read. Sadly it was spoiled by the narrator.
