Summary
Series 1 and 2 of the hilarious radio sitcom starring Harry H. Corbett and Wilfred Brambell, adapted from the much-loved TV series.
Steptoe and Son ran for eight series on BBC TV and even spawned two feature films. Such was the series' popularity in the mid-1960s that the cast specially recorded several episodes for BBC radio.
Here, collected together for the first time, are all 21 episodes from the first and second radio series, scripted by Hancock's Half Hour creators Ray Galton and Alan Simpson and adapted by Gale Pedrick. Among the classic comic incidents in these timeless episodes, Albert's 65th birthday turns into a disaster; Harold finds love with a French girl; Albert is upset by Harold's plans for a proper bathroom; and the duo get an irresistible offer. Plus, Albert and Harold's creditors arrive seeking payment; two coffins lead to a burst of superstition; Harold regrets taking Albert to the cinema; and Albert disrupts Harold's Labour Party meeting.
The episodes included are 'The Offer'; 'The Bird'; 'Sixty-Five Today'; 'The Stepmother'; 'The Economist'; 'Wallah-Wallah Catsmeat'; 'The Diploma'; 'Steptoe à la Cart'; 'The Holiday'; 'The Bath'; 'The Lead Man Cometh'; 'A Musical Evening'; 'The Bonds That Bind Us'; 'The Siege of Steptoe Street'; 'Pilgrim's Progress'; 'The Wooden Overcoats'; 'Sunday for Seven Days'; 'The Piano'; 'My Old Man's a Tory'; 'Homes Fit for Heroes'; 'Crossed Swords'. Also included are two bonus features: a short 1966 Steptoe & Son sketch from The Ken Dodd Show and a selection of trailers prepared for overseas broadcast. Duration: 11 hours approx.

Great series
Great series brings back memories of first time round, however, the last half hour a waste of space as consists of many intros or links, all so similar.

Classic comedy.
This is British comedy at its finest and the bonus short episode with Ken Dodd was very good.
My only criticism (apart from the 20+ trailers for Steptoe & Son 🤷♂️) was the intermittent sound quality.

Excellent Listening.
Great for listening to in bed at night, classic british comedy at it's best, I have purchased all three volumes of Steptoe & Son, some episodes have been restored so there are some changes in audio quality which is to be expected for such an old radio show, they are the exact same as they were aired on BBC Radio 4 Extra over the years.

You dirty dirty old man
I laugh at this , I know it's from an era of a bygone age but I look back with Rose tinted spectacles and feel for the 'oh so simpler times', a vintage comedy worth a listen, the only tragedy was the short life of one actor and the shadowy past of the other.

You know what you're getting
If you could sum up Steptoe & Son: The BBC Radio Collection in three words, what would they be?
Classic; Nostalgic; Excellent
What other book might you compare Steptoe & Son: The BBC Radio Collection to, and why?
Dad's Army
Which character – as performed by Harry H. Corbett and Wilfred Brambell – was your favourite?
The show doesn't work without both of them. So impossible to say
Any additional comments?
Really well crafted. Like many of this era, the timing is impeccable. It's the original RADIO series rather than TV adaptation so no issues with visual jokes missed. Great collection and well worth a download

So funny I was crying
This is a great listen on the way home from work!! Sound quality is a bit up and down but that is expected from the old radio recordings.

Brilliant vintage comedy, can tirelessly listen
My great grandfather knew Harry H Corbett well and whenever I listen to this series it evokes a period in time stored forever in comedy and humour, when people eeked a living.
