Summary

Thousands of the most essential French slang and idioms

Understand "real" French

If you simply stick to the formal vocabulary you are taught in your French course, you will have a hard time understanding native speakers. This audiobook will help you to progress in everyday French - the kind you can hear on the street, in movies, and on the radio.

Impress your French-speaking friends

Get a more intensive conversational level that rises above the banal by using some well-chosen slang. Your friends will be impressed by your level of French and will consequently speak to you in a more natural way.

A fun book in itself

This book contains some curse words and interesting expressions used by the French. I am sure you will have a good laugh while learning some of them.

Continually up-to-date slang

Slang is ever-evolving, and terms can grow outdated quickly. The main book has selected the most consistent terms you can hear throughout the years, but, as a bonus, I have created a list of contemporary French terms. This short audiobook (around 200 slang expressions) gets regularly updated with new expressions that appear in media (for example,on YouTube).

New! Never misuse slang again

I also annotate slang words when they are offensive and/or very common. So you will know when you should use them or not.

The most complete French slang audiobook available

Most books available contain only around 400-500 French slang expressions. This audiobook offers more than 1,400.

PLEASE NOTE: When you purchase this title, the accompanying reference material will be available in your My Library section along with the audio.

Good but random

Useful for intermediate and advanced learners who want to pick up colloquial phrases and street slang that get thrown into French casual conversation every day. Includes vulgar slang.

The author just reads out lists of phrases one after the other. The phrases seem disorganized - he can bounce from teaching you to say “get your fat a** over here” one second to how to say “sorry” the very next second. So the mix of level and relevance can be a bit confused.
Author is French, not always a perfect English accent / translation but understandable and useable

Useful but not for beginners.

Disappointing

Any additional comments?

The subtitle 'Learn how to speak French like a native' is misleading, this is just somebody mumbling through a list of random vocabulary as if they were in a hurry to get finished. There is no structure, no explanation of usage, the vocabulary isn't grouped into related words or phrases to aid learning and there isn't even a pause to allow the listener to repeat the phrase.

I'm trying to think of a positive to end on but all I can come up with is, perhaps it gets better further on. I wouldn't know because I didn't make it to the end.

For advanced French speakers.... A MUST !

This is an excellent book for those wishing to add colour and life to their spoken French. It contains those words and phrases that would just simply pass you by or that are UTTERLY untranslatable. Be careful though, some of these phrases and words are NOT for use in front of the vicar or maiden aunt! They are the words uttered by the young or people in their everday chit chat... So use them wisely! All in all an excellent addition to any francophile's lexicon if you are looking to take your spoken French to the next level. Just as a side note, a decent level of French is needed to be able to use this book. If you are looking for a formal guide that tells you in every detail how and in what situation to use the vocabulary, I think you will struggle. That being said, it does exactly what it says on the cover! You will learn to speak French like a native!

Fills a gap other books leave out

This books gives words and phrases I've not found elsewhere. It made me love the French language more as their slang is so colourful and visual. The reading voice is pleasant and friendly and the phrases can be so funny, I had to share many with friends. It feels like this was the missing piece of my French learning.
