Mixed bag

Brilliant and infuriating by turns, it's easy to see why D H Lawrence has fallen out of fashion. This is an interesting collection but it's ruined by the extreme variations in the quality of the readings. The first story is read pretty well; the second is narrated so appallingly that I wouldn't ask the person concerned to read a bedtime story to his own grandchildren! He reads a later story equally badly and I was grateful to be able to skip it once it became too much to bear. The recording quality itself is also mixed: the final story sounds as though it was recorded via a Skype headset on the side of a motorway. I can see why the collection was priced at 78p and I suppose for that little I shouldn't grumble . I did laugh more than I have done for years at the narration of the second story - that eye-dabbing hilarity alone was worth 78p!

there were different narrators some were good and some not. Overall I enjoy the book even if I didn't like it.
