Summary

Between grief and guilt lies the truth.

Movie mogul Harry Nathan's lonely death in a Beverley Hills swimming pool is the beginning of a trail of lust and conspiracy leading to the darkest corners of the international art world.

Private investigator Lorraine Page faces her toughest fight ever as she takes on the case for fading starlet Cindy Nathan, Harry's third wife. Lorraine believes the grieving widow's story. Unlike her ex-colleagues in the police department who have already charged Cindy with murder....

disappointing

not the usual good standard one would expect from a quality writer such as Lynda La Plante

Good plot but laughable narration

Gripping but dated tale(derogatory terms used for various people), but the narrator should never attempt more than one character’s voice, definitely avoid trying to do a male. This put me off the tale as it was cringeworthy.

Worst narration ever

Couldn’t listen past chapter 3. Cartoon-like narration. Kept expecting Bugs Bunny to pop out shouting “what’s up Doc?” Books should be read, not “performed”

Compelling murder mystery PI drama

Absolutely brilliant series of books, this one was so bitter sweet, I was praying for a happy ending for Jake and Lorraine but not to be, so many twists to the book, and although Lorraine had solved it in her mind, Jake completed it in her memory, narration was brilliant and added to the book immensely

1 Star or 5???

I didn’t know what to rate this book. It was intriguing and keeps the reader hooked. 5 stars. But if you a person with a sensitive soul or soft heart, 1 star - DON’T DO IT. Just read the first two books, Cold Shoulder and Cold Blood, and stop right there. I will carry this one with me grieving my mind for a long, long time. This is the book that keeps you awake at night - tears at the ready.

Did not appriciate this book

Lynda La Plate is known for the strong female roles in her stories. In this one she paints a picture of her heroine of a love sick puppy that sacrifices everything for a relationship that isn't even 2 weeks old. Very unlike the battered but mind strong main character of the first book.

Not for me

The narrator of this mystery is beyond annoying, weird male voices, silly "little girl" voice, really over the top NY accent. I can't take it any more, even though I enjoy LaPlante's books.

Ending 🤦🏻‍♀️

I have enjoyed many of this author’s books! This one is the exception. Had I guessed the ending I would have stopped listening.

Listen to this trilogy!!!

It is a wonderful story line of grit, determination, failure, pulling yourself up until you get it right and about learning to trust, forgiveness. It is really a great listen. The last is a heart breaker but so worth your time.

I really enjoyed all the books. I thought she was going to survived the beating. Couldn’t handle the ending. To sad.
