Summary

The first installment of the new McKittrick & Reeves series from Sunday Times bestselling author Karen Rose.

Colton Driscoll is a compulsive liar. But there's one thing his psychologist Sam Reeves fears he is telling the truth about: murder. Concerned his patient has committed an awful crime and that the life of another girl could be under threat, Sam calls in an anonymous tip to the San Diego Police Department.

Detective Kit McKittrick works homicide in the hope that one day she will find out what happened to her foster sister, Wren. When a tip comes in from an anonymous caller it leads her to the body of a girl whose murder has the hallmarks of a serial killer that has been at large for almost twenty years. It also leads her to the source of the information: Dr Sam Reeves.

Will Kit be able to crack the cold case in time to stop another murder being committed? And is Sam Reeves being a concerned citizen trying to help, or is there another more sinister reason he has so much information?

Excellent

I wasn't sure what to expect from this. I'm a person who doesn't like change so the fact that Karen Rose was introducing totally new characters had me a little nervous. I needn't have worried. From the beginning of the book I was hooked and invested in the characters. This is a slightly different style to her other books but doesn't disappoint. The pace was fast moving although it did drag in a few places and the storyline had enough twists and turns to keep me guessing until the very end.

Loved it! (except for Sam's voice)

Great story line and getting back to the style of some of her earlier books! Very refreshing from her current style of tell all up front. Only downside was the voice actor did Sam's voice like a whiney child

Back to the old Karen Rose

The style of writing reminds me of some of Karen’s earlier work. Good, strong storyline with a number of twists. ( Just hoping that romance does not go on and on - will he, won’t she). Good narration helps the story develop!

disappointing

love Karen Rose and i enjoyed the story but the choice of narrator wasn’t the best - i genuinely debated giving up after the first couple of chapters, i even tried speeding up the narration to see if it improved (it didn’t!).

Overall the story was good and i liked the character development, be interested to see where it leads - but please choose a different narrator!

Cold Blooded Liar

Karen Rose at her best with a good plot and interesting characters but why did the narrator give Sam such a weak, whiney voice? Sam sounded like a petulant teenage boy in comparison to other male roles.
Will have to read the next in the series.

Disappointing

I usually love Karen Rose’s books but this one was a struggle. Perhaps if I’d read it as a book instead of an audiobook it may have been better. Why? Because, although the narrator generally did a great job, the choice of voice for Sam was simply awful. He sounded like a sulky, petulant teenager and it really put me off. Considering that this is the first in a new series it has left me wondering if I want to risk listening to any more. That’s how bad it was. All the other men had fine voices yet the main male character’s voice was dreadful. What was Hillary Huber thinking? I don’t know if these reviews are read by anyone in a position to stop the rot now or not but please change Sam’s voice or I won’t be listening to any more.
I also felt the story was a bit weak as it circled round suspect/not a suspect, suspect/ not a suspect and became boring. Definitely the weakest Karen Rose book I’ve read/listened to.
