Summary

As teachers grapple with the challenge of a new, bigger and more challenging school curriculum, at every key stage and phase, success can feel beyond our reach. But what if there were 50,000 small solutions to help us bridge that gap?

In Closing the Vocabulary Gap, the author explores the increased demands of an academic curriculum and how closing the vocabulary gap between our ‘word poor’ and ‘word rich’ students could prove the vital difference between school failure and success.

This must-listen audiobook presents the case for teacher-led efforts to develop students' vocabulary and provides practical solutions for teachers across the curriculum, incorporating easy-to-use tools, resources and classroom activities.

Excellent book but may work better as a paper copy

Most parts worked really well as an audiobook, but there are quite a few lists, e.g. an extensive one of common spelling errors. These parts didn’t work so well and made me wish I’d gotten the physical book. Aside from format, though, this is an invaluable read for anyone working in education.

very informative

This book is very informative, as well as motivating for teachers who really want to make a difference for word poor children. It offers many resources and research based evidence on the topic of word hoard development.

New & valid consideration for teacher development

Entered this a little sceptical about how this would relate to teaching my subject, but was very quickly reassured. high quality content covering important ideas that apply across the whole curriculum.
