Story
There’s a moment, when you meet someone new, when the connection is so strong that making a friend can feel like falling in love. That’s how it was for Connie and Ness. They met in the park while their children played, and as they talked, they realised they were neighbours. Perhaps it was only natural that they and their families would become entirely inseparable. But when Ness’ marriage ends in a bitter divorce, she is suddenly at Connie’s house all the time. Connie doesn’t have a moment to herself, no time alone with her husband, not a second to chat to her kids.

Ridiculous Story
Reading this book was like eating a half-baked cake! The characters, weren't fully developed or relatable. The story was predictable and was much more like a public awareness advert for eating disorders. I thought it would never end and when it finally did alll was left hanging which is a fad that the smart thriller writers aren't using anymore. I don't think I liked or related to any of the characters and the story was just plain boring. Don't waste your credits on this one!

Slow in the beginning then too fast at the end
The book wasn’t full of twists and turns until the end. At times, it felt a little slow. I wish that the author would have gone deeper into the “why” - it was obvious but feels like the story ended too soon.

K L Slater.. losing her touch unfortunately...
I am giving this book a VERY generous rating of 3/5 stars because I love the narrator, and because I would hate for someone to read a bad review about K.L. Slater books and think they are all awful. Because, they aren't. Except for this one. And the one before it..
I love K.L. Slater books. I salivate over them. She has such an awesome way of pulling the reader or listener into the story and twisting the plot with a 'SURPRISE' that you just might have seen coming, but probably not.. The 'SURPRISE' in this book was not at all one I saw coming, which is another reason for the 3/5 stars.
So- we have a great narrator, and a fairly good 'SURPRISE.' The problem is.. everything that lead up to the end wasn't good. At all.. In fact, it was confusing and unlikable and I wanted to slap every character in the book. Hard.
We have a busy paralegal (Ellen), her husband (Sean), and their 10 year old daughter. They have agreed to stay together for the sake of their daughter but live separate lives because they've fallen out of love. It's not too long before the Mr. falls deeply in love with a woman, who happens to be his wife's boss.
The wife's boss has her own daughter who is the same age as Ellen's daughter. Ellen's daughter is thrown into a serious conundrum when dad starts dating her friend's mom of course- but then things take a really implausible term. In fact, the story line was so ridiculous and stupid, it was actually hard to finish the book. And the ending.. it would have been ok.. but then Slater adds an additional 'SURPRISE' to the already-shocking moment and it's soooo... dumb.
For those who have never read Slater, please don't start with this book. For those who have, you might want to skip this.. unless you are a die-hard fan like me. (Then again, if she keeps publishing this quality of psychological fiction, even the die-hards will wean off)
Advice to Slater- please quit trying to crank out so many books in such a short period of time. Your fans will wait. Sometimes, good things happen when we wait... (Just a suggestion, of course.)

The Closer to the 💓Ending
Lucy Price-Lewis voice is great and impacts how the listeners invocks the experience in the five senses of truly enjoying this audio-book. However, I now after finishing this novel feel as if I have been left unsatisfied after a much awaited sexual encounter... I am so hopeing K.L Slater does not intend to leave fans feeling high and dry? ....
This novel is unfinished and should have given the listeners a glimpse of the real endding?

What an outstanding story!
I finished listening to it in one day it was that good! For any mother it will make your blood pressure rise. I didn't see the ending coming at all. Had to go back and play the last few chapters but it all made sense. Narrator did an excellent job bringing the authors words to life. For me anyway... definitely worth the money. 😀😀😀
