Summary

Close Your Mouth is a self-help audiobook containing complete instructions to apply the Buteyko Method for asthma, coughing, wheezing, breathing problems, and nasal congestion.

The Buteyko Method can be learned by children and adults alike. It is supported by 20 clinical trials. Trial results within 12 weeks included:

  • 70 percent less coughing and wheezing
  • 90 percent less need for reliever (rescue) medication and
  • 50 percent less need for preventer medication

The author, Patrick McKeown, is one of a few persons directly accredited by the late Professor Buteyko to teach his method to others. In 2002, Patrick founded the renowned Buteyko Clinic International to enable children and adults worldwide to improve their asthma control and significantly reduce their need for asthma medication.

The Buteyko Method empowers children and adults by re-educating their breathing in order to manage and significantly reduce their asthma for the rest of their lives. Close Your Mouth is the Buteyko Clinic Instruction manual given to each attendee of Patrick's clinics. It is written in a simple style that can easily be understood and applied daily. Since its publication Close Your Mouth is in the top 10 best-selling self help books for asthma on Amazon.

The Buteyko Method has been described as one of the most important medical discoveries of the 20th century. You will find the information in this audiobook compelling and life changing.

Not just for asthmatics

This should be taught to every child in school over the age of five.
This book is beneficial to anyone who breathes.

While I loved this book... print would work better

Since this book is short and the exercise are specific. I ended up re buying it in print form.

The narration was great as was the content. I preferred it to his earlier book, because it's quick and to the point.

Actionable steps with specific goals

Loved the book. Quick, easy listen on my 1.5 hour commute home from work (1.5x speed). Also gave further reading resources throughout and near the end of the book. I now have daily exercises and steps, and specific goals to reach (ultimate goal is to have a control point ("CP") of 40 seconds or more, for 6 months - this means be able to gentle nasal breathe in, gently nasal breathe out, and stop breathing: the point where you start to feel an urge to breathe is your CP). Pretty simple - you gotta retrain your body to do more with less breathing. Great book!!!!

Nose breathing make my health even better.

Patrick, For me, this way of breathing is simply & transformational. I feel with daily mindful practice during rest and with exercise I am evolving myself to better breathing., and better health. Good job in your research to help better the quality of life in this breathing body for us all. Dr. Arthur

New Beginning

I just finished Close Your Mouth for the third time. I am amazed at what I have learned and what I am putting into practice already. I have struggled with inherited emphysema for 26 years. I have never heard anyone, doctor or layperson, mention I should breathe out of my nose. I was a chronic mouth breather. I am just starting on this journey so I will keep you posted on Facebook. Thank you so much for writing this book and now I am on to Oxygen Advantage. I will get off this oxygen tank! People will hear about it now...from me!
