Publisher's Summary

When a Victorian scientist propels himself into the year 802,701 AD, he is initially delighted to find that suffering has been replaced by beauty, contentment and peace. Entranced at first by the Eloi, an elfin species descended from man, he soon realises that this beautiful people are simply remnants of a once-great culture - now weak and childishly afraid of the dark. But they have every reason to be afraid: in deep tunnels beneath their paradise lurks another race descended from humanity - the sinister Morlocks. And when the scientist's time machine vanishes, it becomes clear he must search these tunnels, if he is ever to return to his own era.

    "interesting thoughts"

I decided to listen to this book as its a classic and I wanted to broaden my reading interests.
the book was ok, I didn't realise how short it was but considering when it was written, found it pleasant enough.
i found the idea that HG Wells wanted to write about a time that is so far into the future that its even wonder if our world will still exist then, or if it will have died out long since.

A wonderful book, in the same class as Gulliver’s Travels. It is one of the books I would like to take with me to Purgatory. - Sir Winston S. Churchill

So to say HG Wells is before my time is an understatement, but this book proves why it was the first. Engaging and well written, great story, even though I have seen both movie versions and countless other time stories. Coupled with a great reader makes a great combination.

"Wells and Banks make for a smashing listen."

This was one of the first books I ever read. Revisiting it here is like coming home. It holds a place in my heart, and Johnathan Banks gives his reading a flair that does this beautiful story wonderful justice.

To me the ending was believable, but not very satisfying. I prefer the movie's ending in comparison. I know, sacrilegious, right?

One of my favorite subjects in the science fiction. I only wish H.G.Wells have wrote more of it.

Wonderfully written, much better than the film. The voice actor did an excellent job with his reading.

Delightful listen to escape commuting traffic, with ingenious predictions of where we (humankind) are destined to go. The classic story is still a wonderful read.

    "Fantastic Story"

This book was recommended to me by a professor of English at my University. It was my first H.G. Wells' story to experience and I lived the way it was written. Lots of description and vivid imagery. The plot kept my attention even as an audiobook, which is a feat in and of itself. Would highly recommend. The only critique I have is that I wish it would've been more detailed in the later chapters as it was in the initial journey. Other than that, a solid read and a wonderful classic.
