Summary

Now of that second kingdom I shall sing where human souls are purified of sin and made worthy to ascend to Heaven’ Purgatory is the second part of Dante’s The Divine Comedy ascending the terraces of the Mount of Purgatory inhabited by those doing penance to expiate their sins on earth. There are the proud – forced to circle their terrace for aeons bent double in humility; the slothful – running around crying out examples of zeal and sloth; while the lustful are purged by fire. Though less well-known than Inferno, Purgatory has inspired many writers including, in our century, Samuel Beckett, and has played a key role in literature.

Brilliant performance

This series performed by Heathcote Williams is really helping to make this text accessible to me, as his performance is really evocative and atmospheric. I probably need to listen to it again to get more out of it - I found Purgatory more difficult to follow than Inferno, but I think that’s the nature of the structure of the two parts.

A classic

In short - a true classic. A most read piece of poetry, in my opinion. Well performed.

Wow

Never read this before. probably one of the biggest set of allegories I've ever heard in one sitting. I'm a mystic of sorts and starting my journey with knowledge of this excellent work only helps me deduce more practically the lessons that pop up in day to day life one used to ignore. paid for all 3! wish there was a 4th.

Best Narration

This is one of the clearest and most engaging narrations of the Divine Comedy, it is very easy to follow and enjoyable to listen to.
