Summary

Spagna, Costa Blanca. Sandra, trentenne in crisi, cerca rifugio: non ha un lavoro, è in rotta con i genitori, è incinta di un uomo che non è sicura di amare e si sente sola, alla disperata ricerca di una bussola per la sua vita.

Lo sa bene Julián, scampato al campo di concentramento di Mauthausen, che da giorni segue i loro movimenti e finalmente può smascherarli con l'aiuto di Sandra. È impossibile restituire la vita alle vittime, ma si può almeno fare in modo che tutto ciò che è successo non cada nell'oblio e non rimanga impunito.

Da leggere tutto d'un fiato questo noir che ci arriva dalla Spagna... Il libro scorre con una tensione sempre più forte ma non viene versata una goccia di sangue.

Costruito come un thriller psicologico, con una prosa che rasenta il grado zero della scrittura e una soluzione consolatoria rispetto al dilemma del trovare una punizione che risarcisca vittime o sopravvissuti, il libro si sofferma sul presente, sui mostri che si nascondono dietro un volto sorridente e spesso non pagano per i crimini commessi, tanto più se sono protetti dall'indifferenza del mondo.

A light and intriguing story

A light book, a gripping story and likeable characters; this is a perfect read for a holiday. It explores life, forgiveness, different viewpoints, the secrecy and mystery that transpires from people who have different ideals and backgrounds compared to ones own. The true traits of characters slowly unveil through the eyes of the protagonist. I loved the plot and characterisation, I was left disappointed by the final acceptance that no matter how unforgiving and evil, some people get away with committing terrible crimes and still manage to lead a peaceful existence.
